bros.

if ure a coder or a web developer in naija u have to go work for the big corps unless u got a stinking rich popsie.

otherwise u end up as a slave for some selfrighteous bastard who pays u in peanuts and promises.

or a yahoo yahoo 419 spambot warlord... which seems to pay well enough....

hello brov, i suggest u go for the job now because opportunity comes but once. Nigeria been what it is u might finish ur masters and start roaming the streets looking for a job. If u leave that job definitely some other person will grab it quickly. Your masters could come later when u must have gotten some work experience. cheers

Guy m is that u accept the job unless
ur people are very rich to finance ur Education then u can go ahead
but to find job no easy u can always do ur part time that the only option if u a working
in nigeria is only ur expeience and professional qualification that matters in about 80% cases.

If u live in the USA, the company might pay your masters while u work with them, but u need to maintain As in your classes. ANything short of A, u will pay small to the company,

do u have to ask about this?
i am sooooooooooooooooooo surprised at u, but then please please please just go for ur masters.
Do u know why?
new rules comes up in nigeria everyday about educational standard, tommorrow they might deciede to say b.sc or first degree is no more needed. In the first place who will lose when there are thousands of people with masters out there,so where not satisfy the nation's corrupt state and give what is due to who it is due before u regret it, why are u in a rush? God that has given u the first job will surely give u options for others when u have a higher degree. make a wise choice now.

Best regards.

GET THE MASTERS, THE BANK WILL HAVE ALL GRIPS ON U AND U'LL NEVER HAVE TIME.

AFTER THE MASTERS BELIEVE U'LL BE HOT CAKE FOR THE BANK.

THEY JUST WON'T SAY NO TO U ESPECIALLY IF THE MASTERS IS FROM A FOREIGN UNIVERSITY.

GUY MAN THE SKY IS YOUR LIMIT. BE VISIONARY

Aqua, i would wish to wish to contribute to your question by asking you this simple question. Do u have a clear cut goal that you are going after at the moment, which you hope will lead you to fulfilment in life? If yes, then your confusion is resolved, just go for any of these ( masters or banking job) that will facilitate the achievement of that goal.

Hmmm,  Dorkmanzero, you're a straight- to-the-point person. However i agree with u, but my candid advice is if it's a foreign University like in US, Canada and the UK, u may choose to forego the bank offer, because paying your way out through the program may not be that hectic for u if you're from a well-to-do home, or a citizen of that country, but if it's none of the two, n you're determined, ofcourse u can sail through, but it's not going to be easy.
However, if it's a Nigerian University, Bro's, u'll just have to do it part-time, 'because it will not be worth it, to rush up your programme and end up in the 'labour Market'
Babes, shouldn't bother u much now, they will always be there, even throwing themselves at u, when u are made.
I am actually job-hunting and i know for sure that by the time i eventually get one, they will be all over me.
Women will always be women, na their nature be that, so man, be focussed.

bros.

I am a citizen. does NOT help. Believe it- i have tried. Igf you don't believe me, ask someone else to explain. I don't have time.

Coming from a well-to-do-home means coming from a home rich enough that you never needed to worry about getting a job in the first place.

The final option that makes sense is scholarship. And that is the route that most take. but it is obviously not an option for our friend here.

please go for the bank job. of what use is masters when people with masters r roaming the streets of ngeria except otherwise u have reservations about bank jobs.
for me i don't care about masters because i don't even have d finance to do it. i`ve been roaming around d streets of jos since auguat last year i`m fed up of been a dependant
all i want now is a well paying job, eg banks and oil company and after about 2 years i quit and start up on my own i`ll employ graduates

Well, I'm somehow in a similar shoe. I have different job prospects in the offing as I have passed their test and in different interview stage-Accenture,kpmg,NIB-citi group, Equitorial Trust Bank, GT Bank.
At thesametime, I have gotten admission on full funding for a PhD in Chemical and Biochemical Engineering at the University of Maryland,Baltimore County in the US covering my full tuition, health insurance and a monthly stipend around $1700. I am not in anyway from a rich family but an average one meaning no guarantee of a God father that will arrange for one job for me after graduation back here in Nigeria but I still believe in myself.
I had to make up my mind to accept the admission because in the first place, it is a free education and afterall, I don't have to work while studying except that in my first year, I will be a graduate assistant, while in the subsiquent years, I will be a research assistant.
Although the program last for 5 years(because i am just a BSc. Chemical Engineering holder from Unilag) I can still stop after 2 years and collect my masters certificate but I am considering studying up to PhD. and above all, when I come back to Nigeria, i will should be a better more exposed and quality person and if I don't work in an engineering industry, I can consult and if possible go into lecturing or work in a research institute.
i'm doing it for my future on the long term plan.

bros.

You are NOT in a 'similar shoe' by any stretch of the imagination.

Why? one thing: Monthly stipend of 1700 dolls. Higher than the salary u'D get from any of those places.

Money makes all the difference. Obviously you won some sort of rare scholarship. That doesnt apply to anybody else who is reading this thread, my guy.

Frankly, I think you should go for the job, because Masters or no Master's, it all boils down to D'u know ur onions, just like the 2.1 issue, It could get you places, but its not going to keep you there! I mean, lets face it, Why r u going for the Masters in the first place? Isnt it to get a awell payin job? And you already have that,  So, you decide!! Smiley

Hi. If you want my opinion (I don't know how late it's coming). Go for the job.

Nigeria's not exactly a land of abundant choices. You have to have that Eminem philosophy (You only get one shot, do not miss your chance to blow). When a job comes your way in Nigeria, i think unless you got another great vision, you'D better just take it. I'm not saying you should sell out on your dreams just for a paycheck either,  but if your convictions (about your hopes & dreams)are strong enough, then dump the job option.

I personally know a guy who had this same situation a while back. doing a Master's with only a few semesters left to complete and he got a job offer. He chose to stay in school and today (2 Years after), is still unemployed. oh sorry, I forgot to say that he was unemployed before the Master's. And the usual hope is that after the master's, he'D get a better offer. Sadly, unless you got God with you and you with Him, sorry.
