Pidgin of any language ,not only English is the corrupted form of the language usually mixed with a local language. So you can have pidgin English ,pidgin French or Dutch. You also have Nigerian pidgin English which is a variant of West African pidgin English, so saying pidgin English is Nigerian is failing to understand the meaning of the word |

@aciddrop, The word pidgin originated from from Chinese pidgin English.The languges usually develop as a simplified form of a foreign language usually for trade. If you look it up in a dictionary or internet ,you will get more info. How are things Down Under( in OZ)? |

They don't speak English but I looked it up and thats the origin of the word pidgin (or pigeon). The language was used by British traders and the Chinese.Thats the same way Nigerian and west African Pidgin English developed. Google pidgin English and you'll come of with a lot of stuff. Cheers |

@Acidrop. Just looked up that pidgin stuff again, still like I said,started in China not Japan. Actually listened to a languge professor talk about it the first time.Try wikipedia ,you'll get more links there. Cheers |

there is amereican english and also the so called queens english there r pidgin english and there r pidgin english but wetin i know be say nigerian pidgin english is indeginous to nigeria |

but then, its only in nigeria that they even call it pidgin english, the rest has dieffernt name for their lang, so i will have 2 say that pidgin eng belongs to 9ja and 9ja only |

My lecturers wife can speak Pidgin English and she is fully Dutch. My friend in Poland, she speaks broken English with me. Refuses to write in proper English with me except pidgin English. And she is quite impressive with it now. |

Pidgin is not peculiar to naija, almost every part of the world speak a corrut form of a standard (internationally spoken language) there is japanese kind of english, jamaican english, nigerian(dats our pidgin), even arabised english exist. Have you herad the word 'FRANCANGLAISE'(A marriage of english and french words) Thats it! HAppy nu year in Advnce 2 all nlanders |
