There should be a line here.

Well, I have PLAYED with Languages like C, C++, VB, Perl

But I code professionally and actively in PHP and JavaScript because I do Web Development strictly www.codixel.com

Right now, I am in the middle of JAVA (an awesome language). Plan to get married to this language in the nearest future  Tongue

I run MySql databses.

I wouldnt lay my hands on any programming language without an overwhelming OpenSource support!

I agree. There has to be a line somewhere. The title should probably say "what languages have you used professionally or extensively"  I don't think using a language for one semester in school or dabbling in a language for a few months or so makes one versed enough in the language. That's just IMHO!

Thats the point Bossman.

You can read and understand how a programming language works, note the features and be a theoretical pro. You can even teach it, or even write a book on it! Like most the lecturers in our universities do. But that does not make u a coder in those languages.

What makes u a coder or a user of a Programming Language is your ability to be able to transform solutions into programs using them!

everyone has used a programming language but methinks the question is: what have we done with the programming languages we've used. i keep wondering why every cafe uses easybrowsing.com timer when the timer is so lame. why can't we do something that'll add value through the programming languages used by us?

1996 - GW Basic, QBasic
1998 - Was taught Fortran, COBOL, Pascal, C in school
1999 - Completed a VB6 book but never practiced then I learnt Java
2001 - C#

Of all the languages I learnt, only Java stuck.  Now, I want to stop procastinating and learn Ruby.

Man, there are lots of big broses here. But i can't stop to wonder why the Nigerian software industry is still relatively unproductive if we have so many "gurus" in the country. I think the answer is "Its not about what you know or what you can do but its all about what you have done with what you know or what you can do and how well you have done it". I honestly am very impressed at the number of talents we have in Nigeria but my concern is the output. I think what determines the  reward of programmers is the ability to see what the world needs and the ability to deliver it in the best quality it can be delivered minding less of the time it will take to deliver it, even though time is important.

I got to know what Information technology(IT) is in my final year in secondary school. After i left secondary school i went straight into Networking(CCNA). Aftet i finished with the whole CCNA syllabus, I could not do the exam due to lack of dough at that time. So, i had to suspend it. Shortly after, I decided to go into programming to see what its all about- i was so in love with networking that nothing i heard about programming impressed me as much as networking-then i can come back to networking. I thought so far its all about cramming codes, no problem i already crammed "commands" in cisco networking.

So i started with C, then C++. At first, my head almost exploded. But due to determination i finally grabbed the whole thing. Thanks to a friend whom i know to be a genius. For the love i have for electronics, my first project was simulating the basic digital electronics properties like the logic gates, ports, flip flop and so on. Then, game programming. I did "Tank" and Pacman. It was fun. Now i write applications with C++. That is the stage i am now. The next step is to learn php & mysql. After which I'll consider Java. I am now deeply in love with programming. I had to break someone's heart- Networking Huh Huh

Though, compared to most people here, I am new to programming. But what i aim for  is productivity and quality of output amongst other things. With commitment, we can all do anything we imagine to do. Enjoy yourselves!

Web designing and programming is becoming the talk of the moment in information and computer technology. People are made to pay heavy amount of money in other to learn how to design and program web pages. You don’t need to be a computer scientist or a guru in computer for you to know how to handle that. I have a self explanatory tutorial that can guide you to learn how to become a web programmer using the most popular, and powerful web programming language called PHP.

As you go through the site, you can search other free links go get more tutorial in other software with little or no fee. http://knowphp.webs.io

Cheers! Share with others.
