Developer Of Fortran Dead At 82

Let’s all take a moment to honor the memory of John W. Backus who put together the team at IBM that developed FORTRAN, the first widely used high-level language, back in the 1950’s. We’ve come a long way since then.

He is perhaps the single reason why there is even a "programmer" section on NL.
