Developer Of FORTRAN Dead At 82
« on: March 20, 2007, 03:08 PM »

Let’s all take a moment to honor the memory of John W. Backus who put together the team at IBM that developed FORTRAN, the first widely used high-level language, back in the 1950’s. We’ve come a long way since then.

He is perhaps the single reason why there is even a "webmaster" section on Nairaland.

May his soul RIP - Amen!!

Oh come on, FORTRAN has nothing to do with Webmastering.  If he didn't do it, someone else would have.

Sure he did, albeit in a subtle manner.  I mean, no matter how simple, anyone in the web dev discipline is a programmer in their own respect.
