The erotic escapades of sex-crazy teachers in Nigerian schools have made headlines online and offline and the latest report by The Seattle Times is quite revealing. Even a desperate male teacher harassed a female pupil who was only 11.
In many cases of sexual harassment in both public and private schools in Nigeria, the sordid affairs have been swept under the carpet, because parents often hide the sexual abuse of their daughters from public knowledge. And most victims of rape never report to the police and prefer to keep it secret, because they are ashamed of being the unfortunate victims of rape. They prefer to bear the harrowing trauma of their victimization in secret and avoid the public stigma of disgrace as the victims of rape. The public knowledge of her violation could discourage her ideal suitors. Therefore, Nigerian parents do their best to cover up the rampant cases of the sexual violations of their daughters. And the rapists often escape from prosecution.
If parents can report that their daughters have been raped and get the rapists arrested and prosecuted, other sexual predators would be afraid of harassing and raping female pupils and students in Nigerian schools.
