Lets Talk Dubai
« on: January 04, 2006, 01:13 PM »

I was in Dubai late last yr on a 5 day business trip (November 21st to 26th). I must confess..it was a real eye opener for me. Now i know we got a big problem in this country cuzz almost everything works over there. It a haven / pasttime paradise for businessmen.

My Dad was setting up a telecomms business and i was given the contract to furnish him with phones and accessories. I spent almost 190,000N for the trip (visa, ticket, hotel accomodation and got myself lovely gearz). I got phones worth over 8M (shipped down via emirates air cargo) and still had little sum'n sum'n left. Wink I would say the entire trip was hassle free from the ports. Everything was ridiculosly cheap. Traders got to see Dubai.

I got goods there very cheap. Dubai is a free trade zone... (taxes almost non existent). Virtually ever company in the world worth its salt has an office in Dubai. Plus the city has the worlds only 7 star hotel - Burj Al Arab hotel.

I also met a Nigerian my age (24) who really lives big there. he works in an IT firm specializing in cold fusion technology and he earns..wait for this.US$9000 monthly.

I think its a land of opportunities. Ever been to Dubai? What were your experiences.

NB: Dubai is in the United Arab Emirates.

It advisable u plan the trip yourself (with guidance though) but be wary not to fall into the hands of touts/frausters. You'll need roughly 190K for a 5days trip (visa, air ticket, accomodation feeding and stipends).

don_yomi,i decided against it cus of these reasons *they will give u an apartment and take care of your visa and plane fare but u wil pay back as u work, thats deducting from your salary BUT comparing the cost involve and the deductings,u would end up saving nothing, hence if u have somethng better doing its rather better to forget the offer *u will be deported immediatly u stop working for them

Yeah Dubai, is surely a beautiful place only that our Naija bioz have started embarrasing trhemselves there, the last time i was there, two Niaja agents wanted to fight at my hotel lobby, over what? five Dihrams, i quickly handed it over to one of them, can't bear to watch such nauseating exhibition! I got back from Dubai two days ago.
It's really a beautiful and well-organised place.
You can't believe they use 2007 (or is it 2008?) Toyota Camry and Nissan Altima as taxicabs!

Hope to post a couple of photos as soon as I can.

One Taxi driver told me there that after 4 years the Taxi's are removed from the fleet and new ones are bought by the Government. The Government controls the Taxi business in order to maintain its Tourism pedigree.

DUBAI IS HORRIBLE TO LEAVE IN
« #25 on: July 19, 2008, 02:56 PM »

my blessed nigerians,if you ave to travel out of naija to make a leaving please forget dubai,i leave here actualy i ave my own company here and am also married here,am talking to you with innermost sincerity if you are a hustler forget here it's killing even for people who ave companies it beging to be a regret you can not ave a company here with less than 150,000 dirams(80,000 dollars) imagine you paying 700 dollars for 1 room and in the case of hustlers you ave to sleep in 20's to be able to afford a room payment, talk of employment you can never get a job i stand qouted someone said his paid 9000 dollars,it's a lie,i leave here and pity my fellow nigerians who even want to go back but they can not because, you come in with 2 weeks visa which you have to go to iran and change every 2 weeks 600 dollars, when they don't get job how can they go and change their visas so they end up selling their passport to people who wants to go back home.
no doubt it's a nice place to relax and shop but not for a leaving because u end up waisting your time and life.
am saying all this with sinceririty even we investors are planning to relocate to other places and invest because as investors also we find out that our money is going every year and we ave to renew our licenses every year and also pay staffs.
one more thing if you are lucky to be employed u get 3 years visa, with 600 dollars, which cannot pay your house rent so still u leave in atleast 10's because u ave a    job.you can not bring your family in to visit you because u ave labourer's residence visa which can be cancelled at anytime your boss thinks he cannot afford your salary again which means u ave to be deported home or prepared to leave in the country ilegaly.
with that u are being totally useless,u can't get another job because u illegal and u can'T go home because u have to pay huge fine for staying illegally or be prepared to go to jail for 1 year before travelling home and bare in mind you have to buy a ticket for yourself after jail terms.
a word is enough for a wise one think twice atleast be an investor or don't come atall.
love u all
SHERRIF.

@promise2,
i will advice that you find out yourself what goods are available in dubai
to import rather than posting your number and how much you can afford. There ae way too many dubious people in here who might dupe you.
don't always believe all you read here.
there are many sites on the internet that can offer you opportunities of what you can gt from dubai, but be mindful of those items prohibited by the nigerian govt, if not, you have to settle customs and immigrations through your nose.

search for business opportunities in dubai on google.
