Laptop Keyboard Not Responding
« on: March 28, 2007, 11:50 AM »

I've got an HP Pavillion dv6000 I bought in November last year.
Sometime in December the keyboard started misbehaving,it would respond on and off and when I turn on the lappie I hear this prolonged beeping sound that doesn't stop until I press the esc key.
Right now I can't even use the lappie because the keyboard doesn't respond anymore,some say it's the dust that has gotten under the keyboard while another prson says it's the flex.
I do plan to take it to Computer Village but first I want to know if anyone can give me an idea of the diagnosis and possible prognosis.
Thank you.All suggestions welcome.

@tianshie

Sounds like a problem a colleague had once with a compaq Laptop. Same beeping sound at start-up (untill u hit Esc and a couple of other keys), and when it finally boots, the keyboard goes haywire- opening a word editor, it just starts typing randomly. In the end the keyboard had to be replaced.

There are many so called Laptop specialists out there -but go only for the trusted and reliable ones- else they switch components without you knowing.
Cheers !

I once experienced what happend to your laptop keyboard a week ago,I solved my this way.Buy a external usb key board first and plug it in, reboot system.If windows load good.
Then open contol panel click on printers and other hardware.Then click on keyboard a dialog box will appear then click on hardware tab, then ckick troubleshoot. If this deos not still work i suggest you format your laptop and install Windows Xp using your external keyboard.
WARNING!PLS DO NOT TRY THIS IF YOU DO NOT HAVE YOUR LAPTOP DRIVERS!

I am also experiencing the same problem with my dell latitude laptop. The keyboard suddenly stopped working and all i hear is a loud beeping noise. Can someone please tell me how to rectify this problem without necessarily visiting a technican?

Has anyone tried the solution offered by seyestik? I await your responses. Thank you all.

HAYVE U CONFIRMED THAT THE FLEX CONNECTING IT TO THE MOTHERBOARD IS IN PLACE ?, if yes, then u can go ahead to replace the keyboard, for the mean time, u can just get a 500 naira external keyboard and use it indoor, unless u know u can alwz carry it along wt u anywhere u go, bt remember, u still have to carry your HELMET, lol
