Lampard, Gerard And The England Midfield
« on: March 28, 2007, 02:34 PM »

Right from the World Cup in Germany, it's been obvious that Liverpool's Steven Gerrard & Chelsea's Frank Lampard in the England midfield are like Oil & Milk, the guys just don't mix!

Why is McClaren so adamant on keeping those two on the field together when it's quite obvious that the team plays better when one is off (rather when Lampard is off) ?

@ Razorr

easy girl;  no be coach go enter field begin tell player how 2 pass ball o.

i know u're irked by what i said 'bout Lampard but his performances have been under par 4 England recently & he just doesn't jell with Steve G - maybe 'because they sorta play alike,
Hargreaves woulda been a far better option, then maybe Lampard off the bench 4 Gerard - ease him in2 the game slowly so he can regain some form.

And that's a problem that proper communication can solve!
Anyway, lampard is not playing tonight, so we can sit back and watch what happens. http://www.football365.com/story/0,17033,8652_2023243,00.html

McClaren is a gutless poof, he should have dropped Lampard since, although Gerrard hasn't played as good as he does for Liverpool, lampard has been worse, with a player like Haegreaves who is more defensive minded than Lampard England should be able to playe better than they did against Israel.

Personally i feel England main problem is their attack, no one looks like they'll score

I keep saying this: - English Players are over-hyped and overpaid!  Angry   Angry

England has not won a world cup since 1966Shocked

England has never won the European cup!  Shocked  So what's all the fuss about those players?  Huh

Those English players only shine in the leagues because they are surrounded and supported by players with diverse skills from all over the world!

As for the Lampard versus Gerrard Issue, let me post these facts: -

Essien, Ballack, Lampard are all attacking midfielders.  But Jose Mourinho plays them together perfectly in Chelsea!

When Essien left Lyon for Chelsea, people said he would sit on the bench at Chelsea but Mourinho fitted him in perfectly.

The problem with England is a lack of imagination from the coach. They also lack good communication in their attacking midfield.

It's the job of the coach to instruct the players on their pattern of play. The two players cannot be doing the same thing. In Chelsea, for example, look at the way Sheva and Drogba communicate. Sheva does the homework and Drogba drives the balls in. This is why Drogba outshined Sheva when he first came in (scoring more goals). Those guys play according to instructions from the bench. Lampard does the shooting. There is persistent communication. Before Sheva came in, Drogba was very quiet. People used to call him names and say he was a shitty player, but we all new it wasn't the case. Sheva came in to solve drogba's problems (believe it or not). Essien collects the ball from the central defence and drives it into the core attack of the team. He is a strong player and is very solid on the ball.

All those players each have their roles!

Communication is a key in any team and trust me, it's not the players that determine how to do that but the coach. If you doubt me, ask Mourinho.

It's quite silly for McClaren to drop Lampard for Gerrard. The two can play together. Don't forget that Mourinho wanted to buy Gerrard and trust me; he would have played them together and produced fantastic results!

And if McClaren insists on dropping one of them it shouldn't be Lampard. I agree that Lampard is not as skilful as Gerrard, but for 5 years he has scored more than 20 goals in each season. A record Gerrard has not been able to match!

McClaren is a shitty coach and should be sacked. Kapish!  Angry

The sooner Enfland get theri asses out their asses the better for them

- Mc Claren should go (He aint got a clue what he's doing), how can a team with so many individuals not muster up a convincing win.

- England should quit hyping their players up, they are not as good as they make em out to be e.g Rooney (Definetly not a goal machine), Lampard, Defoe n Johnson. WHy the hell do u think they san't play anywhere else apart from the Premiership (Thats y i respect David Beckham). Plus other teams won't buy their players because they are over priced, imagine Rooney for close to £30m or Carrick for £18m, imagine if they had a player as good as Ronaldinho, how much would they price him.

On the real England should stop being bias and be very fair to themselves and their players

Yea. You just underlined my point that English players are over-hyped and over-paid.

McClaren doesn't know what he is doing. He needs help. Maybe he should come to Chelsea for two weeks and get some coaching classes from the special one.  Grin   Grin  Tongue

And i just hope yesterday's result will not becloud the fact that they haven't got a good coach. They were always going to win no matter the team they field against Andorra, the real test for them will be provided by Russia and Croatia!!!

 Shocked   Shocked   Shocked

Read my posts carefully! I did not say Mourinho should coach England!
I said McClaren should go and spend two weeks in Chelsea to under-study Mourinho and learn a thing or two!

England is a very dificult team to coach, partly because of the English media. The media picks the team and then kills it!  Angry

Some people have suggested that England should get a foreign coach, but what sensible foreign coach would want to coach England?
That team is a nightmare!  Grin   Grin  Besides, the media would give him a very tough time! That's England for you!  Angry

Lampard and Gerrard together = 0%

Gerrard and Hargreaves = 100%

Lampard and Hargreaves = 55%

If you need prove watch any England match.

Gerrard in the Centre and Lampard as a sub for him is the way forward.

Simple.

England and Nigeria are almost the same in terms of football, its either the coach[ they want a white coach now they got him and still complaining] england wanted an English coach now they got him n want him to leave

the players are usually good in their clubs but rubbish for their country

the media and FA are probably the only difference, the English media will hype and dump you! the Nigerian media  Undecided they just talk talk and talk
