Celtel's Unity Tariff Is Deceptive!
« on: March 30, 2007, 12:01 PM »

CELTELS UNITY TARIFF IS DECEPTIVE!

With the new simply smooth, simply smart and simply special, it's all rubbish. Why 100 Naira for migration when it was free for the initial migration of Glo and MTN. I stand to be corrected!

Calls to other within the network ought to be cheaper than to other networks or operators. That's the way it is done all over the world. You can check websites of Vodafone, T-Mobile, Orascom, O2 and Orange

This is because, all calls within the network is at NO COST AT ALL to the network since it is within. It's calls to other networks that is a COST to them. This is because of the INTERCONNECT RATES attached when a network terminates on another network.

Hence, if network operators don't charge at all for INTRA NETWORK CALLS, it's at no cost to them. That explains why Glo and MTN where able to give free MIDNIGHT ON-NET calls because it was it didn't have INTERCONNECT RATES attached to that. That also explains easier ON-NET text messages (e.g. Glo2glo and so on).

So overall, CELTEL's call rates are higher than those of other networks when it look at it statistically. Check the call rates of Celtel, Glo and MTN on each of their websites compair them with an analytical, statistical and mathematical mind to see Celtel is the most expensive!  Besides, for now, CELTEL has the smallest suscriber group of the 3 of about 7 million people with GLO and MTN having over 12 million and 14 million people respectively!

Is it true that the minimum transaction which one can make with Celtel's Me2u is 1000 Naira? Glo started it all with 'Glo Me2u'. Later, MTN changed d name to 'MTN Sell and Share'. Celtel simply came out with Celtel's Me2u.

Please respond or educate me! Remember, I stand to be corrected! Thanks!

You are absolutely right my brother, their unity tariff is really deceptive since they changed off-peak on weekends to 10pm - 6am. I wonder when their subscribers will be able to call for 33k per second if not only at night as from 10pm everyday considering the fact that it is the 33k per sec rate that they are highly advertising in their promo.
Unsuspecting subs will switch only to find out that they can't take advantage of the 33k except at night when everyone is sleeping.

You're 100% correct my bruva, Truth is Celtel's messed up, only reason i still stick wit them is cos i still get to browse for free,   The simply smart option should actually be called simply stupid cos when u pay N3600 every month for hundred free minutes, it amounts to one paying 60k per second which is even more expensive than the simply smooth option,  Make we organise to boycott dem network jo.

celtel network is a complete washout, they have not realised the potential for abandonement from nigerians, one day they will wake up to realise that they no longer hold water in the nigerian communication industry

I wonder what the fuss is about, celtel has decided to make daytime calls the cheapest which is impressive

I think it is better to be the cheapest at the time it is needed (during the day) than at night when callers and recipients should be asleep

It is simple if the tariffs(which are the cheapest) are too expensive, I believe the are other options like MTN, GLO, MTEL and others

There is so much energy spent on comparisons when the facts are not checked. Thats impressive, the enthusiasm

Bros;

I think you are a Glo subscriber? Actually the problem is from Glo's SMS delivery and it happened to lots of people using Glo who were sent SMS over the last few days,

On the tariffs, I think a man's meat is another's poison; you need 2 pick whats best for u. I think the idea of having one cost in my head no matter who I call is a nice one; it opens the market rather than the other netwiorks' tariffs which are aimed at making you bring your pals into their networks [to take advantache of cheaper witin-network calls] than helping you.

I dont call much at night so the fact that I can get the best daylight tariffs does it for me,

@Cabili and bimbayo, where the hell did you guys get the idea that Celtel is the cheapest during peak period?

MTN to MTN peak period is 50k within network and 70k off-net (Averages at 60k)
Celtel is 66k to all networks, which is cheaper then?

As an MTN sub, I get to save 16k from calling within my network and loose 4k for calling other networks when compared to Celtel's flat fee of 66k.

Guys, Me2U is a celtel brand name, the only problem was that they were slow to go to the market with the name, but they had already registered the name with NCC. Glo is using the name illegally and there is already a complain before NCC. Glo may be asked to withdraw the name because they are clearly using it illegally.

I think overall, celtel's tariff is cheaper. Given that there are some issues currently with migrating to the tariffs, these are normal challenges that occur when a new service is implemented. As soon as they are sorted, the real benefit will begin to be appreciated.

i'm out,

« #22 on: April 13, 2007, 12:05 PM »

the problems started since celtel took over from vmobile.
the normal free 12 sms to all networks has been scrapped and replaced with just 6 to only celtel subscribers. this is very annoying.
and wats the point of having free sms if u can't use them until u have credit???

on the unity tarrifs,. . a friend of mine changed and he has been crying since then. he advised his friends not to make the same mistake.
wats the sense of payin 66k on all networks when calling within the netwrok is cheaper.
the money celtel loses by making calls to other networks  is nothing compared to how much they gain when a call is made within the network.
now it is bette for a subscriber to call other network subscribers!!!!.

celtel this is not fair . . .

the only good thing they have, which is not total, is the  goin on. and the only reason the browsing is still free is beacause they don't know how to start billing. . .trust me on this. I KNOW.

i love celtel bu tthe only thing i never liked abt the network was that they cut so much but not i just heard on radio that they've made tariff cheap to any network.

if they can do that plus their 6 free sms then, I WILL GRADE THEM THE BEST NETWORK SO FAR.

i love celtel.

The most difficult thing about changing, network is that most people, organizations and records would have known you on a with a number and informing everyone may be a futile mission.

@toksdara The least u can transfer with celtel’s unity tariff sis N2 not N1000.

There is no need to be so negative. Migration to the new unity tariff is not compulsory; subscribers’ have the option of remaining on Celtel 30. Personally, I think charging N100 for a new package that comes with tariffs as low as 33k/sec, 15 free sms, 25k peak & 21k for family and friends, 15 free sms per month (on the network) and  happy hour calls is fair.

Huh I REALLY DONT KNOW WHERE SOME OF YOU GET YOUR INFO FROM, CELTEL OFF PEAK CALLS IS 33K, YES IT IS SLIGHTLY ANNOYING BC THEY KEEP ADVERTISING THAT AS THEIR MAIN CHARGE DURING THE DAY.
FOR ME THEY ARE THE CHEAPEST NOW BC I NORMALLY BUY 1000 NAIRA BUMPA CARD TO BE CHARGED 35 NAIRA PER MINUTE NOW WITH THE SIMPLY SMOOTH I AM CHARGED 400 FOR THE SAME PREVILEDGES. MOREOVER THE CALLS ARE NOW 59K PER SEC, MTN SUBCRIBERS BEAT THAT Kiss

CELTEL IS BLINDING PEOPLE INTO BELIEVING THAT ITS RATES ARE SUPERB! WHY SHOULD OFFPEAK BE 10PM TO 6AM FROM MONDAYS TO SUNDAYS!! HABA WAT ARE WEEKENDS FOR?, CELTEL'S SIMPLY SMOOTH IS TO CLUMSY & STUPID THAT ONLY, WOULD WANT TO HOOK-UP TO IT.
ECONET WAS KOOL, VMOBILE TRIED HARD & IMPRESSED WITH EVEN LIMITED RESOURCES, BUT THIS CELTEL HAS COME TO REAP WHEN IT HASN'T SOWED!!! ON-NET CALLS FOR GLO EASY-TALK e.g  IS MUCH CHEAPER, THE ONLY CONSOLATION WITH THIS CELTEL FIASCO IS THAT FROM 10PM U CAN CALL OTHER NETWORKS @ CHEAPER RATES IF U USE ONLY ONE FONE. BUT Y CANT ON-NET CALLS  BE FREE AS FROM MIDNITE?!!! THE SIMPLY SPECIAL IS CRAZILY STUPID.
THE WHOLE THING STINKS & REEKS OF A SCAM, NCC SHOULD INVESTIGATE & MAKE SURE THEY RETURN UNSUSPECTING SUBSCRIBERS' MIGRATION CHARGES IF THEY HAVEN'T BEEN MIGRATED, ESP THE ONES THAT TXTED 'YES' TO ###.
CELTEL CAN DO BETTER THAN THIS !!! Angry

Has celtel changed their customer care number from 111? I have been trying to call but will be directed by a prerecorded voice to go to their website. This our country is truly the greatest.

First of all  let me state that I dont work for CELTEL and my view is strictly as a financial analyst. I also want to state that I use CELTEL, MTN and Starcomms. I even have a glo line.
That said I want to point out that what CELTEL is doing simply makes economic sense. Why should CELTEL subsidise your calling other networks when the interconnect rate is still at N18 per minute or 30k per second. With the bulk of the customers on MTN and Glo CELTEL will be throwing away good money if it attempts to unify the rates at a lower price level. In fact by charging 10k per second during the happy hour, they are actually using the amounts charged on on-net calls to pay up the interconnect rates. If one were to hold only one set then CELTEL is definately the cheapest. But as I said I have all three.
