I would suggest you give your girlfriend a gift that signifies that you're a good listener. If you've been listening pretty well during the numerous chats you must have had with her, you will pick out a couple of things (neccessary things ooo!) she may have wished she had.
Then, you can suprise her and get her one of such items. This way, you tend to 'grant her wish' or 'make her wish come true'. Soemtimes, such things are not expensive.
Also a gift that shows you know her size (you pay attention to detail) also works pretty well. Shoes and clothes fall into this category. A small but rich birthday cake also sounds swell.
