I don't really know what you want an employment as web designer or you want firms to give you contract to design their website . if you want an employment check the gaurdian newspaper every tuesday and thursday companies looking for web designer alway place thier ad in the gaurdian but if you want contract then you need to go out let people know what you do your skills and what you can offer them, print a business card and you can also advertise i think this will help good luck

If you haven't worked on any contract work or designed a website for someone else. I will suggest setting up your own site to show case your talent and do a couple of free work for some people just to start to build you Portfolio.
