From Bukhari's Hadith 4.394: Narrated Abu Huraira: When Khaibar was conquered, a roasted poisoned sheep was presented to the Prophet as a gift (by the Jews). The Prophet ordered, "Let all the Jews who have been here, be assembled before me." The Jews were collected and the Prophet said (to them), "I am going to ask you a question. Will you tell the truth?" They said, "Yes." The Prophet asked, "Who is your father?" They replied, "So-and-so." He said, "You have told a lie; your father is so-and-so." They said, "You are right." He said, "Will you now tell me the truth, if I ask you about something?" They replied, "Yes, O Abu Al-Qasim; and if we should tell a lie, you can realize our lie as you have done regarding our father." On that he asked, "Who are the people of the (Hell) Fire?" They said, "We shall remain in the (Hell) Fire for a short period, and after that you will replace us." The Prophet said, "You may be cursed and humiliated in it! By Allah, we shall never replace you in it." Then he asked, "Will you now tell me the truth if I ask you a question?" They said, "Yes, O Abu Al-Qasim." He asked, "Have you poisoned this sheep?" They said, "Yes." He asked, "What made you do so?" They said, "We wanted to know if you were a liar in which case we would get rid of you, and if you are a prophet then the poison would not harm you."

From Ibn Sa'D page 249:
Verily a Jewish woman presented poisoned (meat of) a she goat to the apostle of Allah. He took a piece form it, put it into his mouth, chewed it and threw it away. Then he said to the Companions: "Halt! Verily, its leg tells me that it is poisoned." Then he sent for the Jewish woman and asked her; "What induced you to do what you have done?" She replied, "I wanted to know if you are true; in that case Allah will surely inform you, and if you are a liar I shall relieve the people of you."

From Ibn Sa'D page 249: [different narrator]
The apostle of Allah and his companions ate from it. It (goat) said: "I am poisoned." He [Muhammad] said to his Companions, "Hold you hands! because it has informed me that it is poisoned!" They withdrew their hands, but Bishr Ibn al-Bara expired. The apostle of Allah sent for her (Jewess) and asked her, "What induced you to do what you have done?" She replied, "I wanted to know if you are a prophet, in that case it will not harm you and if you are a king, I shall relieve the people of you. He gave orders and she was put to death. [SEE NOTE 1note that the poison was a test of his prophethood but he didn't pass,it killed him. http://answering-islam.org.uk/Silas/mo-death.htm

I believe there should be mutual respect for each other's religion. Such comments are not acceptable and I don't subscribe to making ridiculous remarks about religious leaders of other religions. There is a more decent way of setting the agenda for a discussion about cause of the death of Prophet Mohammed (PBUH) than the inciting comments made so far. I am a Christian and I studied Islamic Law/Jurisprudence in the University, if you sincerely want to know more about Islam then go and get their books/materials , read the Hadiths and understand their perspective.

The fact that you don't know how Prophet Muhammed died does not mean that the cause of his death was a BIG SECRET, all the Hadiths do testify to the fact that he was poisoned to death by a woman. So, whats the big deal about it or what are you trying to contrast/compare about it with your Christianity ?

Since when did a quote become inciting comments? What are you offended at? How many times have millions of people OPENLY mocked the divinity, person and Crucifiction of Jesus Christ EVEN TILL TOMORROW and no one raises an eyelid? When did this spirit of political correctness blind our ability to reason rationally?

@ishmael, are you people saying that since he was killed by the poison in the meat he ate he was not a true prophet?? I don't know if that's what is to be supposed - it's more or less an open question. However, when one reads the events of his death, especially the fact that the Jewess declared that it was an act of testing the veracity of his prophethood, then it may not be far-fetched that Muhammad failed that test.

Who are those who saw his chest split open for the black sin to be removed from his heart?
Who are those who witnessed the book "sent down" by Allah to Muhammad which is now called the Qur'an?
Why did Muhammad not survive the poisoning of the lamb to prove that he was indeed a prophet?

Assalam alaykum ala moni taba'al huda,
I read through babyosis post but I couldn't find where it was explicitly stated in the hadith he qouted that prophet Muhammad died through poisin. The web he referred us to, make conclusion without justification.
To anybody that cares to know how Prophet Muhammad died. Here is the true version:
Two months after performing the Hajj (Farewell Pilgrimage), Prophet Muhammad fell ill. He continued to lead the congregation prayers. After one of these prayers he invoked special blessings on the martyrs of Uhud, and then addressed the Muslims:
“There is a slave among the slaves of Allah (The One God) to whom God has offered the choice between this world and that which is with Him, and the slave has chosen that which is with God.” Upon hearing this Abu Bakr (ra) wept as he understood that the Prophet was talking about himself and that the choice meant his imminent death. The Prophet continued:
“I warn you O Muslims to be good to the Ansar (the Helpers, i.e., those residents of Medina who helped the Emigrants from Mecca). They have performed their duty well. Muslims will increase in number but Ansar will dwindle and be as salt in a meal.
“Woe to the nations before you who worshiped the tombs of their prophets. I forbid you to do that. O people, the most unselfish of men to me in his companionship is Abu Bakr, and if I were to take from mankind an inseparable friend he would be Abu Bakr - but the brotherhood of faith is ours until God unite us in His presence. O my dear daughter Fatimah and O my dear aunt Safiyah, spend your efforts in the way of the hereafter for I will not be able to help you against the Will of Allah. “I go before you and I am your witness. Your meeting with me is at the pool (a lake fed by the celestial river Kawthar where believers will quench their thirst on their entry into paradise.). I fear not for you that you will set up gods beside Allah (The One God); but I fear for you that you will rival one another in worldly gains.”
Soon after this sermon, his last in the mosque, the Prophet became so weak that he could not move. He then appointed Abu Bakr (ra) to lead the prayers. The Prophet spent the rest of his illness in the apartment of his beloved wife A’ishah (ra). On the early morning of twelfth of Rabi’ al-Awwal, the prophet’s fever abated and he went to the mosque, assisted by Fadl and Thawban, when Abu Bakr was already leading the prayer. Realizing that the prophet was approaching, Abu Bakr stepped back without turning his head, but the prophet pressed his hand on his shoulder to let him know to continue. The Prophet sat on the right of Abu Bakr and completed the prayer while seated. The apparent recovery of the Prophet overjoyed the Muslims. Anas (ra) is reported to have said that I never saw the Prophet’s face more beautiful than it was at that hour.
Within hours, the Prophet lost his consciousness. He opened his eyes again an hour later saying to A’ishah (ra): “No Prophet is taken by death until he has been shown his place in Paradise and then offered the choice to live or to die.” Among the last words he said were:
“With the supreme communion in Paradise, with those upon whom God has showered his favor, the prophets and the saints and the martyrs and the righteous, most excellent for communion are they.” The Prophet’s last words were “O Allah, with the supreme communion.” He died in the evening of the twelfth of Rabi’ al-Awwal (June 8, 632 A.D.) at the age of sixty-three.
The news of the Prophet’s death was so hard upon close companions and Muslims that some of them refused to believe that he had passed away. (At the close of his death, he looked youthful as if in his forties and his face always shown a great radiance). Upon hearing this, Abu Bakr (ra) who was later to become the first caliph went to the mosque and delivered one of the noblest speeches:
“O People! If Muhammad is the sole object of your adoration, then know that he is dead. But if it is Allah (The One God) you Worshiped, then know that He does not die.”
He then recited the following verse from the Qur'an, 3:144, which was revealed after the Battle of Uhud:
“Muhammad is no more than an Apostle: many were the Apostles that passed away before him. If he died or were slain, will you then turn back on your heels? If any did turn back on his heels, not the least harm will he do to Allah; but Allah (on the other hand) will swiftly reward those who (serve Him) with gratitude.”
The Prophet was buried the next day at the same place where he died. The place of his burial was decided by his saying as related by Abu Bakr (ra): “Allah does not cause a prophet to die but in the place where he is to be buried.”

@olutomiwa Your case is like those who denied the ascension of the prophet but when he related to them the account of what he saw during it, they all believed and accepted it.
Who are those who saw God when he was creating the world? List the names of those that were there when God was sending Jesus to come and die for your sins? Give me the names of those that were there with Jesus when God was telling him that he will come back during the end time, though he told them(the disciples) that they will still be alive when he will come back?
Hence, you don't need to have eye-witnesses or even bystanders to some spiritual accounts especially when it is related to Prophet, any one of them even Jesus.
Did Prophet die through poison? What is your evidence? In the site babyosis quoted, the writer said the Prophet died some months later after the exidence. What is his proof that it was the poison that killed him?

What is his proof that it was the poison that killed him? Here comes another blabber. Just because the Qur'an denies Biblical naratives according to Muhammad's tales, babs787 trumps up childish questions demanding "witnesses" who saw this and that. But then, it is only convenient for Muslims to accept just about anything Muhammad said, even though he simply told them so. Muhammad died by poisoning - the textual evidence has been offered by babyosisi. If Muslims deny their own sources for this same issue, they can as well deny everything in Islam.

I thought Blabs787 was demanding "witnesses" to prove that Jesus Christ indeed was crucified. Now that there are no witnesses for mohammed's various lies another master at taqiyya has come to tell us no witnesses are needed when it is related to the prophet including Jesus. So much for hypocrites!

Muslims deny the above EXPRESSELY on the basis of there being no witnesses to prove this. Why is it suddenly convenient not to require witnesses to "some spiritual accounts" as soon as the emptiness of Mohammed's own claims are shown up? Why the hypocritical "even Jesus" when the sole aim is to absolve Mohammed of his own dearth of "witnesses" to so many of his grandiose "miracles" and claims? Did Prophet die through poison? What is your evidence? In the site babyosis quoted, the writer said the Prophet died some months later after the exidence. What is his proof that it was the poison that killed him?
Is it not a shame to you that you require christians to provide "evidence" as to how the "last and greatest prophet", the single most important personality in your religon died? Ever heard a christian asking a muslim to provide evidence of how Jesus Christ died? Is it not an eternal shame that between just you and blabs787, no one can come up with a coherent version of Mohammed's death? And you both claim to be following a rationale religion?

But it is too embarrassing to admit, and that is why: (a) the Jews are deeply hated by many Muslims today (b) most Muslims feel uneasy that it would confirm that Muhammad failed his own test of prophethood. Hard luck looking for an honest answer from Muslims admitting the truth of how Muhammad died - they would rather repost the revisionist theories they are served by the Imams.
