F*CK OPRAH.
I love the attention from 419. At least we are known for something and above all they're concerned. I've always been quick to throw my Naija cred around, it never failed me. The real impression about Naija is that they're real smart folks in a failed country.

i know it is easy for us to think the victims were gullible. those fancy words of the crooks, if not because most of us are vast with Nigeria affairs, am sure we will easily fall preys too. it's so easy to fall for those kind of things unless you've been hearing stories. many of the Americans still don't know scams exist. but their media is helping them out, thanks to CNN, OPRAH, ABC, FOX, Texas news etc and the host of others,

I won't put blame on the lady who bought wedding dress and went to the airport to wait for her prince charming. afterall she thot she was in love.
we should try to make a difference wherever we are.

i get those crookish letter at least once a week from south Africa, china, India etc. but am sure they are Nigerian and i delete it. i get it again and delete it, then the 3rd time i get it, i write them ''Stop writing me or else i will forward the letter to FBI and they will fish your head out wherever you are and you will be shot in the head'' that put a stop to it. and then the following week, i get another again with different name.

well, i thank goodness that now people will be careful when they get such letter. it's an eye opening for everyone.

the sad thing is the image of the country.

@sweet t

you could have made your post without calling out any names or displaying your hatred towards the igbo (which no one really cares).

when Oprah was doing the show, did she say anything in particular about tribes?  everyone dat's seen it will only say something about NIGERIA, NOT IGBO Wink and if you had happened to watch the other news network (dateline?) you would have noticed must of the names mentioned were yoruba or non-igbo, but dats besides the point and only to set the records straight.  instead starting a thread so we can all discuss the issue like grown folks, your running up in here pointing fingers. dats pure baloney. what do you want us to do now, carry bows and arrows and run after the igbos?

D talk in town now is how Nigeria was badly portrayed Sad I was actually called up by 2 friends of mine who knows am 4rm Nigeria. D sad part is dat 1 of my friend commented dat even those dat r not Nigerians claim to b Nigerians when they r caught.
Its really sad though. Hopefully d negative image of Nigerians would one day turn positive. Grin

Now lets get to the Nitty gritty of this issue

Why are people falling to the cheap baits of "I am the son of Sani Abacha and he has money to transfer". They are falling because some Americans have in the past earned a fortune by being part of such deals, they are falling because Mobutu once laundered money to America, they are falling because a lot of African loots have been laundered to the west and people earned a fortune for taking part is such money laundering. This goes on even today or will go on tomorrow we dont hear them, Oprah and fox news will not bring the attention of the world to Banks behind such deals.

Then when scams are designed because the above existed and Americans are at the recieving end, it becomes a media issue.
Let no one be decieved, if they abhor corruption as they so preach they should do more to expose banks aiding corrupt african leaders to launder money. As a matter of fact the boys involved in this scams are doing those out of desperation.
At least we saw what happened after hurricane katrina and how Americans where running after other people's properties. That is a pilot scenario of how they Americans will be desperate if there country is dysfunctional as Nigeria.

Oprah and Fox should focus more on the institutional corruption by the american banking industry against the African continent than than little boys in the slumps of lagos.

@ Mckern; true talk. but very few people view it dat way. Its like different countries have images which they identify them with. Like Kenya is known 4 their safari stuff, but Nigeria is known 4 419, fraudsters, scam specialists etc.

A thief is a thief either big or small  before anybody try to take something that does not belong to him let him
consider the following question.
Is this  thing mine?
What if am cut in this act?
Would I have the nerve to face the consiquence?
what happen to my reputation?
What happen to the  name they gave to me after much delibration?
Am I doing the right thing?
What would my family, friend and society thing about me at large?
A stollen money can never be enjoy with peace of mine; we can all get to where we aspire if we do our home work well,  Notorous BIG never steal but very rich and restless to day he is no more. If you have millions at 23 and you are not mature in mind on what to use it for it is useless.
In every tribe there is a judas let no man blame one another but do your own part and pray for the betterment of this country for what has a begining would surely have an end. I believe if a child is descipline his for him to take correction.

@ Sweet T  @ omoge
i feel una, and i kinda see where u lot r comin from. However i don't think all this pointing of finger will solve the problem.
Who cares if u r Yoruba, Hausa or Igbo; in a white man's eye, "all of una the same" just like lagbaja's song.

All Nigerians spoiling OUR country's image in the diaspora will never progress!!!

I once worked in a security printing company in the UK (where they print all manner of bank cheques).
At the interview they did the normal level of security check (including police report and d full shebang) apparently because i showed em my UK passport.

Do you know that 2 weeks later when i told the Director of operations that I'm originally from Nigeria these people called a board meeting? WHY because they wanted to know about my background,  even where i lived in Lagos. Can u just imagine?

Infact the big banks in Nigeria cant afford to print their own cheques in Nigeria, simply because of 419. As a result, the money (Millions) which should have been circulated within our own economy is paid to the UK, where Nigerian Banks pay the equivalent of what European Big Boy Banks pay.

Omo men sometimes at work i feel like weeping when i see how many security features are embedded in a Nigerian cheque all for the sake of preventing 419.

In fact there was a day my colleague was mocking me at work.
After production, he simply brought a barclays bank cheque & a Nigerian bank cheque to my office and he started lecturing me about the differences and the need for so many security features, i was short of come backs.

In fact i have some friends (not igbo by the way) who simply ask me if i could steal some Bank cheques from work!
Can u Just imagine! Of course they don't give a damn about my bleak azz, all they care about is their own belly.

Omo men i sorry for that country, God help us all.

Ok , Igbos are the problem of Nigeria ,all 419 are Igbos and its Igbos that spoil the name of Nigeria ,yet if this same Igbos would declare their biafran state tomorrow ,what would happen ? would th rest of Nigeria let the " greedy, criminal and 419" Igbos go ? no they wont ,what you would see is the Nigerian federal troops will be deployed in the east to bring the Igbo people back to the fold again ,yet they are the same people you don't like ,they are the same people you claim that they bring you bad names and image, why don't you let them go so you would now enjoy your image without igbo man spoiling it by being called a fellow Nigerian like you ? This is like what Ojukwu  once said ' A guy is carrying someone else on his back and the guys weight is really pressing him down to the point of braking his back ,meanwhile the guy on his back said he would do anything other getting down from the guy's back to relieve  him from his pain '
the guy that suffers that pain is the igbo man and the guy he carries is the Nigerian nation , you say he is bad ,but u don't want him to leave you ,you always want the igbo people who u call criminals to be with you , why would Nigeria insist on having Igbos as part of Nigeria when the igbos are the because of Nigeria's bad image ? who is fooling who here ?
Sweet T , Its unfortunate that despite living in the western world where we beleive people have secular and liberal mind ,you still have such destructive tribalistic venom flowing in your veins .
