Big Brother Africa 2 runner-up, Ofunneka Molokwu, is in town. She was on Tuesday formally presented to the press in Lagos by Mnet and Multichoice. What otherwise would have been a fine outing for all, however, turned stormy as inquisitive press men wanted to know why Ofunneka, who claimed to have made Nigeria proud, was caught by the Biggie’s camera being smooched by the BBA winner, Richard.

Ofunneka tendered apologies for what happened, but dismissed reports that she was raped in the house. She said she was never raped, neither did she report that she was, and that it was not true she had decided to sue.

She said, “Before going to the house, I made up my mind to remain focussed and not to flirt with anyone. What happened in the footage you are talking about was as a result of drinks we had on the said day. I was tipsy and did not know what happened after. I will say I let down my guard a little, but then I am human.”

Ofunneka admitted to have seen the footage, but she said she was still discussing with her family on what next step to take.

“And whatever I finally come up with, I will let you know. But I am with my family and there is no problem.”

Her minders from Mnet and Multichoice did confirm that they had received summons from the House of Representatives and were prepared to go forward and defend themselves.

Said Ade Adefeko, Head, Corporate Communications, Multichoice Nigeria, “We have been summoned and we are prepared to go before the House. But one thing is that BBA is a reality show, it is not a scripted programme. We have listeneed to comments and criticisms and we are working on them.”

General Manager, M-Net Nigeria, Allison Triegaardt, disagreed with the view of some people that there was nothing African about BBA. According to her, for the fact that the 12 housemates were all Africans, there could be nothing more African in the programme.

She also did not agree that the organisers were negligent over the issue of sexual assault in the House. Since there was no allegation from any of the housemates about rape or indecent assault, there was no basis to investigate anything.

Not minding the controversy, Ofunneka was delighted to talk to the Nigerian press now as a star and a celebrity. The way she was being taken care by her minders would make anyone green with envy. She acknowledged that she had become a known somebody, having been watched by millions of people in about 54 countries of the world. She said it was time for her to use her platform to realise her ‘overcrowded’ ambitions, most important of all being to go into the entertainment industry.

“I like to go into entertainment, I have so many things in my head. I now have a platform to express my life-long dreams. But I have not pinpointed exactly what I want to do, I am still having fun. I went to the House very focused. That was why I decided not be tied to anyone and I believe I did just that, I made Nigeria proud.”
