if you are able to write a vb6.0 programm, then you have developed a software in essence, a software doesnt have to be big before you are termed a software developer. if you are thinking commercial, then you have to gain more experience and use more sophisticated development tools like .net or Java and distribute your software or program, so to say.

If you really want to be vast in software development, I'll advise you to move from VB6 to C++ or Java. If you know all three, good for you. You won't be limited by any platform. Good luck.
