Who Looks Better: Africans Or Black Americans?

Hello you guys!
I'm new here and I hope you don't mind if I join in.  As far as the posted topic is concerned, I believe that beauty is in the eye of the beholder.  You've all heard that crusty cliche I'm sure.  In other words, what's attractive to me, might not seem appealing to anyone else.  I think it's all a matter of personal preference. By the way ghettchyk, you wrote "african- americans are mixed with other races like indian, white..." May I ask where you got that information? Every so often, American blacks go through some sort of identity crisis and in the process come up with names that seem to provide this facade of pride and dignity to a people that's still searching for their roots.  Throughout history in America, the American blacks have been referred to as Negroes, colored people, Black Americans or simply Blacks.  It is only recently that they started calling themselves "African-Americans" and I'm still scratching my head about that one.

 r u serious? so u really don't know that many afro-americans are mixed with other races? wow! n-e-wayz, black americans r referred to as AFRICAN- americans b/c if u have even a little black in u, you're considered to be a black person, and therefor r of african descent, thus AFRO-americans.

i know! what shame r they covering? i don't think  people live their lives concentrating on what their race or ethnicity is called.
black r negroes, whites r caucasians, yellow r asians.... get my point?

 

how wrong can you get? 
blacks aren't the only ones who call each other african americans.
if you've been listening well, you'll see that blacks can and have been called "americans" "african americans" "negroes" "black americans" or "blacks"
same reason whites can and have been called "americans" "white americans" "caucasians" "white".
also, same reasons you have been called "black" "nigerian" "african" e.t.c.
there's no one name for a person of certain ethnicity. African Americans fit and fall into all those categories listed for them only some are more specific than others!!.

If you mean "they want nothing to do with african blacks" in the sense that they aren't interested in it or them,  that can be understandable. When blacks were encouraged to migrate and move to Liberia in the early 19th century to try out the idea of colonization, although some blacks did migrate, most (I mean most) stayed in the United States despite the bad condition they were in (slavery). It's because. they were born in the United States and so was their fathers. Probably the ones that moved were the ones that still felt deep sense of connection (immigrants, second, third generation immigrants) to Africa that moved.
most felt a sense of security in America (where they actually belonged).
 There are some curious ones though that don't fit in that category (i'll say Alex Haley and countless others are the curious ones).


actually in black communities, african americans do call themselves blacks. "african american" is more of a connotation for what they are. It's more appropriate to use to differenciate blacks from other races in america. If you say "american", you could be refering to a "chinese american" for example.
 i don't know a awful lot about history but i def. know that african americans didn't label themselves or seclusively call them selves "african american".

If you say "african americans" should only be called "black americans" instead,
what would you call a "chinese american" then?  "Yellow american"?

Thank you for that detailed 101 crash course in "Black American" history.  A word of caution though, don't believe everything you read because experience (particularly first hand) is still the best teacher!

Not completely, most Afro-Americans are not exactly pure African, not our faults though.
