i'ma have to go w/ my AFRICANS on this one. weather the men are dark or light, they always do it for me. African men just look so masculine & manily to me. of course BAs are hott too (the men look "prettier"), don't get me wrong.
i love/prefer how features look on African faces, and i think African women are more NATURAL beauties, no, not diamonds in the rough, but NATURAL BEAUTIES as opposed to the women (with heritage) in the west.

Ill tell u gurls something, am African - Nigerian, and i am SINFULLY HANDSOME, i got stunning good looks,lots of people have been telling me this since i was old enough to understand what they were talking about.I have looks that make a woman sieze her breath , i have always noticed the stares from the ladies, many have just been so overwhelmed by my good looks they screwed up courage and actually complimented me (or made a pass at me.??)
it runs in my family, in our genes , those building blocks that produce a handsome well carved face and lovely maculine body,looks have to do with genes, the building blocks of life, some African ethnic groups tend to have nice looks,
The eritrians , ethiopians, and somalis tend to have delicate nice faces, but skinny non masculine bodies, their women also have beautiful faces, but don't have fleshy bodies.The tutsis of Rwanda also have these fine delicate feutures, The fulanis of west africa also fall into this group
mixed racial parentage usually produces fine feutures too (not always), nutrition,way of life ,kind of childhood also tell on how a guy or girl looks as an adult, BUT.AS BLACK PEOPLE WE MUST BE VERY CAREFUL ABOUT THIS KIND OF DISCUSSION, because our race has suffered a mental branwashing, which sugessts that the closer u are to being or looking white the better, this orientation is a function of our tragic experience of slavery and racial discrimination .

Please let stop this dumb argument. Obviously, African Americans are of African descent, and majority are not mixed with any other race but African blood. The disparity in the two environments is driving the proponents of this stupid argument. The standard of living basically determines how you look, wether in the US or Motherland.

Obviously, African Americans are of African descent, and majority are not mixed with any other race but African blood. We're of African descent, but most of us do have traces of non-African blood (from generations ago). It is not very common when you find an Afro-American purely of African descent. |

I think Idekeson was trying to say that the differences on the prettiness scale is not great enough to be measured, troubled with or debated. I understand the point you're trying to make, but please expand what you think of as "Pure African". Are the "coloreds" of S. African "pure African"? Are the Indians? Are the Berbers (who are NOT Arabs)? Are the Fulani? Are the Hausa? The list goes on. You see, just like some A.A.s can say " I have Indian in my family" as a recantation or apology for their blackness some Africans can reference their "diversity" as a recantation or apology for their Africanness. But on the continent, believe it or not, the scope of Africanness and/or African beauty is wider than the scope of Black beauty in the Western world. My because has skin your color (I peaked at your profile ) and anya atulu (blue eyes) but she's still Igbo (Nigerian) and still considered to look Igbo. So is my friend w/ green eyes (her Momma's albino). Just because black people in America are so confident that they don't "look African" doesn't mean that they really don't. Perhaps, they don't know what "African" looks like. Again, I see your point. And it's a good one! p.s. I don't have any of these fair features. I'm just a run of the mill Black Beauty Queen! |

^The point has been well understood; however, when an Afro-American speaks of this "external" ancestry, it is not out of spite for African roots as you suggested, but it's because it's true in many cases. I posted what I did because to say that most of us are of pure African ancestry (implying that our ancestry is solely African without any additional mixtures) is not exactly correct, not to support any notion of "who looks like what" or to try to diminish Africanness. It's only the truth. Also, if you really want to know my personal opinion, it is that continental African beauty > Western beauty, but I was merely responding to a statement, not implying anything about "beauty". Of course African American men look better than African men. For starters, there is a strong culture of keeping fit and pumping iron among American men, whereas it is hard to find a Nigerian man over 30 who has not cultivated himself a pot belly if he has a little money, or who looks emaciated and bony if he is poor.
Secondly African Americans' bloodline is enriched with genetic material from every race under the sun, from caucasian to asian, and this makes for some really exotic looking black folks, in comparison to the bland single flavor genetic pool in most African countries. Having said all that in favor of African American men, the problem of carbohydrate-rich junk-food diets and endemic obesity can also make for some truly frightening Americans of all colors, particularly African American women. Due to this obesity problem, African women under 20 will almost ALWAYS be in better shape physically that their African American counterparts.

Even though we AfAm's can easily hold our own in this topic, I think that the structure of the topic is a bit lopsided, in that you're attempting to compare the entire African population of about 1billion folks to that of the AfAm's 40mill or so. A better challenge would be comparing the African population against the entire Slave descendant diaspora of the Americas, in which includes all blacks of the Americas from Afro-Brazilians to African-Americans.  |

Oh, yes, a very large percentage of the AfAm population is of Igbo descent. We are holders of the worlds second largest group of Igbo descended folks after Nigeria. The Igbo, especially the ladies, are a fairly good looking group of people, and via just some basic observation of my own since reading about how densely the Igbo gene is represented amongst the AfAm population, I've been casually scouting to see just how credible the many, many, many reports in which state this, are, and from my observations thus far, I'll say that they're very credible. The Ebonic word for the desirable size of a person is: thick.
When a woman is thick, it means that she has a large behind and maybe chest but a skinny waist.
When a man is thick, it means that he is not skinny and has large arms, chest and thighs. Although of course the man can be bigger in the pot belly area, if it makes him look like a former football player or otherwise seems manly and not just fat.
African American women were encouraged to look grandmotherly and overweight to be non-threatening to the white women whose homes they worked as maids in. Aunt Jamima was a much used image for black women.
I say Thank God for Ghetto dwelling rappers, who brought the idea of black women being sexy to the table.
Black American women now have images that don't involve them weighing 250 pounds and a maids dress. We can finally be more than maids, mothers and grandmothers. Who weigh too much and smile all the time making the little white children we breast fed and raised happy.
The fat black woman idea which gave us safety is finally eroding in the last 40+ years that slavery has ended. As we get further and further away from the end of slavery, that fat happy mammie image will die with slavery.

There is nothing more manly than the fact that African American men insisted that their women and children be freed also before they would join the North in fighting the South during the civil war. They turned down their own freedom to stay with the women and children and the North gave in and freed the women and children also.
There is nothing more manly than the African American male who has taken the name Nigga and changed it to mean only males, to protect women from this verbal assault.
There is nothing more manly right now, than the African American male who willingly allows his name to be abused in America and this world, so that the women and children can survive. (to get welfare for the women and children, AA males had to stay off the birth certificate and pretend they are not in their childrens lives.)
There is nothing more manly than the AA males whom I see pushing baby strollers down the street, watching their children while the woman works or goes to school.

It was the funniest thing. There is a very older and very square, very upper middle class, college educated black man who does the morning CNN show.
Well they had one more writer on CNN, black woman who wrote a book, telling black women to stop accepting men who were not educated, etc, etc.
The man who obviously did not fall into this class of uneducated blackmen -- looked dead at her and said: I'm going to get lots of letters but I have to say it -- your a hater.
I was on the floor laughing as was everyone in the CNN building.
The point being that it shows the concerted effort to get black women to abandon blackmen and more importantly it shows that the effort has to be made --because they do not do it, no matter how educated they are.
Their mouths do not reflect it, (isn't it our job to nag black to do even better? LOL) but people show time after time that we are still with our men -- if we just count the books begging us to abandon them.
I was glad to see the loyalty of an educated well to do blackman to all blackmen. Even though he was not of that class.
The fact that African Americans marry outside of their race less than all other groups, even when they are rich and upper middle class and especially when they are Ghetto, is just one more fact telling us, that despite the wide myths and lies about how torn apart we are, we are sticking together.
