@ ego,
i remember those songs. i especially liked trapped.
welcome to nairaland. Cheesy

@ ababoy,
i de plenty plenty, infact i full ground. Cheesy,
i thought this thread is dying.
we have talked a lot about songs we remember, how about movies that made waves back in the day?
i particularly remember quite a few because they made quite an impression on me way back.
these movies readily come to mind though i watched them like 15yrs ago.
growing up in lagos, i use to stay up late at night to watch NTA 2 channel 5 and sometimes LWT, because that was mostly my major source of seeing a movie back then,  Cheesy

i remember films like romancing the stone starring michael douglas.
the salvage is loose.
king solomon's mines

then there is this film i watched titled, after the promise, this is undoubtedly one of the most emotional films i have ever watched, cried like a baby each time i watched it.
it was about a man whose wife died leaving him with four sons to care for all alone, one thing led to another and the state took the kids away from him and how he fought to get them back. it was based on a true life story. i don't think i'd ever forget that movie.

so people lets hear your reminiscenses, this time about the movies.  Wink

"300 miles for Stephanie" - chap who did a 'marathon' race as a kind of vow hoping that his sick daughter will not die.

"Venom" - nasty horror about a boy who was wrongly given a poisonous snake instead of the harmless pet snake he wanted.

"Two faces of evil" - nasty hammer house of horror film about identical twins one of whom was an 'ogre' kind of thing and the wife of the other didn't know which of them she was actually living with.

"Assault on Precinct 13" (1976 original) - fantastic original gangster movie; gangs attacking a way out police station that was about to close with only one officer, two female secretaries and two prisoners to defend it.

Some movie involving Billy Dee Williams (can't remember the name) etc etc etc

@ bagoma

Thanks, and i do remember those movies, not sure if i really liked romancing the stone though,  and devil dog was a necessity for raising weekend night scares!

@ Ijebuman
I'm going to look for that lace movie again, thanks for reminding me,

There should be an oldies section in the movie theatres for us poor folk stuck in the hinterlands: anybody know the proprietors at silverbird? I actually visit lagos just for the movies Smiley

And the radio stations don't give enough airplay to the classics. Let's riot! Tongue

RIOT? i think we should give it some thought. Cheesy Cheesy
i can't believe you'll travel all the way from abuja just for movies.
to think that i've never visited the place (though i pass by sometimes) and i live in lagos!
well siverbird group is owned by the murray-bruce family.
there's another cinema located in lekki (i think) i'm not sure of the name now. i hear its good, you could check it out when next you visit, at least for a change.

@ AguNwoke hia! nna na waa oo, Chicks and Chickens indeed! Where did you get that from??? There is NO such song by a Nigerian artist.

I beg to differ - a reliable source just told me it was a guy called Felix Lebarty.
Incredible lyrics:

"They spread their legs so wide, that, you can see through, "

Yeah! 30 something reporting here!-----All the 30somthing years will lived without apologies. Cool

What a shame!  Reading this thread just proved to me how degenerate Nairaland has become, being over populated with agberos in their teens and 20's always looking for anal sex. Once upon a time, there have really been some "qualitative" Nairaland members.  Too bad they are all gone and we are left with unmotivated retards for the most part!

Gosh! I came to Nairaland at a very bad time. Cry

It is even getting worse by the day!

I remember the Tom Sawyer series and Fantasy Island. Cheesy Diana Ross and the Supremes and of  course

Marcia Griffiths, uhm uhm uhm. . . . .Electric Boogie a.k.a Electric Slide.  I still dance ma feet off till this day anytime that song comes on the dance floor.  I had to teach ma husband how to do the "slide" dance so he does not keep going in the opposite direction and embarassing me at parties. Cheesy

Was it not "Uptown Girl" by Billy Joel? Where that wonderful video featured Christy Brinkley and they got married after that encounter? Cheesy

Of course. . . and a bunch of more goody songs the current generation can never duplicate.  I really miss those songs.  Thanks for sharing. Kiss

Please enjoy!

Song Lyrics - Electric Boogie
It's Electric!

You can't see it
It's electric!
You gotta feel it
It's electric!
Ooh, it's shakin'
It's electric!

Jiggle-a-mesa-cara
She's a pumpin' like a matic
She's a movin' like electric
She sure got the boogie

You gotta know it
It's electric
Boogie woogie, woogie!
Now you can't hold it
It's electric
Boogie woogie, woogie!
But you know it's there,
Yeah here there everywhere

I've got to move,
I'm going on a party ride
I've got to groove, groove, groove,
And from this music I just can't hide.

Are you comin' with me?
Come let me take you on a party ride
And I'll teach you, teach you, teach you
I'll teach you the electric slide

Some say it's mystic
It's electric
Boogie woogie, woogie
You can't resist it
It's electric
Boogie woogie, woogie
You can't do without it
It's electric
Boogie woogie, woogie
Jiggle-a-mesa-cara she's a pumpin' like a matic
She's movin' like electric
She sure got the boogie

Don't want to lose it
It's electric
Boogie woogie, woogie
But you can't choose it
It's electric
Boogie woogie, woogie
But you know it's there,
Yeah here there everywhere

I've got to move,
Come let me take you on a party ride
And I'll teach you, teach you, teach you
I'll teach you the electric slide

Some say it's mystic
It's electric
Boogie woogie, woogie
You can't resist it
It's electric
Boogie woogie, woogie
You can't do without it
It's electric
Boogie woogie, woogie
Jiggle-a-mesa-cara she's a pumpin' like a matic
She's movin' like electric
She sure got the boogie

Don't want to lose it
It's electric
Boogie woogie, woogie
But you can't choose it

I just installed an age detector, half of you are underaged.
I remember Return To Eden, The Other Side Of The Midnight, etc. What about the soap Another Life?
Remember this song Iko Iko by Dixie Cups and remixed by Cyndi Lauper

My grandma and your grandma,  were sittin by the fire,
My grandma told your grandma, I'm going to set your flag on fire,

Chorus
Takin bout  hey now, hey now
Iko! Iko! an de'
Jackomo fe no nan e' , Jackomo fe nan e'

Look at my King all dressed in red
Iko! Iko! an de'
I bet you 5 dollars,  he kill you dead!
Jackomo fe nan e'

Takin bout ,   hey now, hey now
Iko! Iko! an de'
Jackomo fe no an e' , Jackomo fe nan e'

My flagboy and your flagboy,  sittin by the fire,
My flagboy  told your flagboy, I'm going to set your flag on fire,

Takin bout ,   hey now, hey now
Iko! Iko! an de'
Jackomo fe no an e' , Jackomo fe nan e'

See that guy all dressed in green, Iko! Iko! an de'
He's not a man,  he's a lovin machine!
Jackomo fe nan e'

Takin bout  hey now, hey now
Iko! Iko! an de'
Jackomo fe no nane' , Jackomo fe nan e'
Takin bout  hey now, hey now
Iko! Iko! an de'
Jackomo fe no ane' , Jackomo fe nan e'
