Valentine's Day: What Does It Mean To You?

ok since no one has replied, i think it means a day to show your loved ones how much u care and how much u love them    and not just with gifts and cards but in words and expressions 

A day of celebrating love.

its a day to order a new springy matress a day to mount and be mounted. A day your girlfriend will let you be naughty with her
a day of xtasy and u la la.

)

Mr val day, is not just a day for lovers but its also a day to celebrate with your friends, family members and loved ones

so to me, it basically means a day of showing love to one another.

 
The History of Valentine's Day

Every February, across the country, candy, flowers, and gifts are exchanged between loved ones, all in the name of St. Valentine. But who is this mysterious saint and why do we celebrate this holiday? The history of Valentine's Day -- and its patron saint -- is shrouded in mystery. But we do know that February has long been a month of romance. St. Valentine's Day, as we know it today, contains vestiges of both Christian and ancient Roman tradition. So, who was Saint Valentine and how did he become associated with this ancient rite? Today, the Catholic Church recognizes at least three different saints named Valentine or Valentinus, all of whom were martyred.

One legend contends that Valentine was a priest who served during the third century in Rome. When Emperor Claudius II decided that single men made better soldiers than those with wives and families, he outlawed marriage for young men -- his crop of potential soldiers. Valentine, realizing the injustice of the decree, defied Claudius and continued to perform marriages for young lovers in secret. When Valentine's actions were discovered, Claudius ordered that he be put to death.

Other stories suggest that Valentine may have been killed for attempting to help Christians escape harsh Roman prisons where they were often beaten and tortured.   
   
According to one legend, Valentine actually sent the first 'valentine' greeting himself. While in prison, it is believed that Valentine fell in love with a young girl -- who may have been his jailor's daughter -- who visited him during his confinement. Before his death, it is alleged that he wrote her a letter, which he signed 'From your Valentine,' an expression that is still in use today. Although the truth behind the Valentine legends is murky, the stories certainly emphasize his appeal as a sympathetic, heroic, and, most importantly, romantic figure. It's no surprise that by the Middle Ages, Valentine was one of the most popular saints in England and France.

to me it's just a day to show love to d ones you love. not necesarily a lover. mom dad, sis , best pals or even yourself. it's all about showing your love.

u can't  buy flowers/chocolate or that cute blouse they've been wanting 4 d ones u love everyday it's not gonlook special after a period of time not to say u gon go broke.

i really have a different view to the meaning of valentine's day. i think that everyday should be a special day for lovers. why should we set aside a day in a year to celebrate love, when u are with this particular person everyday.

To me it means- kata kata! 

Wasting money, trying to outdo other couples.
Stress finding the right, present, card, rose or location for dinner.
Silly Love texts you don't really mean.

In fact, a total sham (waste of time).

I try and make my woman feel special every "other" day. 
I don't need Mr Valentine to tell me when to express my love!!!   

It's just too commercial these days!!

It's a lovely day true lovers and friends. People send red roses or white ones, or simply send sweet chocolates to show the affection they have the concerned one!

What i heard about vals day is that Mr. Loverman aka Valentine died on this day for the sake of love.
I really don't understand why we should be celebrating on the day some one died (4 chrissakes, his death has no effect on our lives).. I mean its not as if he washed our sins away
And which kind guy go die for woman.. I'm sure the woman carried on with her life n raised bastards for the Lord of the Manor... or something like that
