The fact that you and many people percieve that Hausa's are the dumbest actually works to their advantage. Kudos to your narrow mindedness !

At first I was not going to Identify myself as Hausa person though I'm from the middle belt.
But since many of my fellow southern bretheren are quick to classify a northerner as Hausa, so it shall be.

Infact on this poll my ethnicity was not even there. No suprise though. I too will refer to anyone south of Lakoja on Nairaland as a Southerner.
Irrespective of their ethnicity  Undecided

Yes Eureeka!
Someone knows  Grin
I'm from RIYOM LGA and I'm indeed a josboy. I can speak little if any Hausa.
Due to the fact I have been in Canada since the tender age of 7
So how are you aware of my LGA, did you just google it?

Re: Where Are The Ibos, Hausas And Other Non-Yorubas?
« #176 on: November 01, 2006, 02:02 AM »

Oh for sure. That is the language of prerference, besides english offcourse
Plateau State has many languages and it would be hard to communicate to one another.
Hausa is the common language though everyone also understands their mother tongue.

You see that is why one can not classify me as Hausa
First of all my culture is closer to Igbo than Hausa. We are Chrsitians predominantly in the middle-belt
And our culture is that of the NOK people the ancestors of many tribers IN and AROUND Nigeria

yup i know jos has a high christian population.
i think its cool because you get to speak more languages than most Nigerians.

if it makes you feel any better. most people from the west and northern parts of nigeria call ibibio people igbo people. which is false.

i guess all of us have a little bit of ignorance in us  Grin

You do raise an interesting point regarding your own scenario.
I guess ignorance is trully bliss, and people do not care to educate themselves unless it is advantageous to them.

Could you give me a little summary of the Ibibio people because i have heard a lot of conflicting things?
Thanks  Kiss

Basically that they an offshoot of Igbos and that they are not,
That the two languages are basically intermittenly the same,  Huh

Re: Where Are The Ibos, Hausas And Other Non-Yorubas?
« #181 on: November 01, 2006, 02:21 AM »

I have never heard of ibibio being an ofshoot of igbo.

the languages don't even sound alike. ibibio and efik languages are similar a little i understand some efik but can't speak it. There are also a few languages that are similiar to ibibio a little but they are not igbo.
Ibibio is one of the languages in Akwa Ibom. while Efik is one of the languages in Cross River. Cross Rivers and Akwa Ibom used to be one state, until the late 80's or early 90s can't remember, before it was split into two.

We have different food too from the igbos except the ones that are common to most other southern Nigerians.
