I know you will all hound me for what i am going to say but this is a public board When will Africans learn? 1. Racism is inherent in all human beigns, just like tribalism, nationalism, my-father-is stronger-than-your-father-ism and all the rest. We have a joke in the West of Nigeria "How many people died in the car crash? Answer- 4 people and 2 hausas" Implying hausas are not human beigns. All the problems in Nigeria can be placed at the doorstep of tribalism. The horrendous murders in Rwanda? So why are u suprised that a white man would discriminate against a black man. At least they have stopped lynching you and they don't burn u and ur family in your house a-la-Kano and Onitsha because u say "bia" and they say "zo". 2. All human beigns will kick another who is on the ground especially if he is not from his family or something, so why gripe when a slave trader with a big wooden ship and firearms enslaves u because u can't defend yourself? Did caucasians invent slavery. Slavery was an integral part of African culture. In the Old Oyo Empire, if a rich man had a fever he could offer a slave as a sacrifice. Today many nigerians enslave togolese and calabar people (no offence to al the ekaites and ekpeyongs but its true) in the name of house girl and house boy. U should all answer this question very honestly, if u were white would u not have a slight contempt for blacks too, given that all they show u of themselves is drugs, sex, rap, crime etc ?U will all raise the white media conspiracy theory but last i checked 50cent was not in the white media.Do u know the no of nigerian kids that are been led into the pits because of black-american rap? 3. Racism, Equalism, Human Rightism, Feminissm Political correctnessism were all these "isms" basicaly invented by the free-thinking Greeko-Roman civilisations. In other words, whites. You people are using there own medicine to poison them. If not for there education and ideals of freedom we wouldnt even have this forum to chat on. Somebody will go and point to the acheivments of blacks and ancient egypt bla bla bla, Egyptians were the greatest slave-sacrificers of all time if i recal. I challenge anyone to find a derogatory word for racism in any african language. U wont because the african psyche does not see anything wrong in oppressing the next villager if possible. It is all part of surviving. The blacks in America blame their problems on the whites, the ones in Nigeria blame theirs on the village witch. Get off your @zz and get a life or die trying!! Racism is not a white disease

If black women in general were not at least a LITTLE affected by the western media's portrayed standard of female beauty, then the multi-BILLION dollar industry that manufactures and distributes HAIR STRAIGHTENING chemicals would not exist, and the equally enormous market of straight-hair wigs or "attachments" would be nowhere near as large as it is.
To diminish the subconscious stigma that might arise in the minds of buyers who simply want to replace their negroid frizzy hair with caucasian-style straight hair, the cosmetics industry has cleverly renamed the family of harsh hair-straightening chemicals as hair "relaxing" chemicals. Any honest user of such compounds will attest that there is nothing "relaxing" about the heat and pain involved in acquiring chemically straightened hair with such products, all in a futile quest to look more like that white woman in the TV commercial.

Doesn't 'relaxed' hair look more attractive and isn't it easier to comb?

Seun I confess that I am also a victim of the same media brain-washing, for I do in fact find large "Afro-Natural" hairdos far less attractive in women than I do either very short frizzy hair or straightened hair. Wigs by any name are a turn-off for me, for they tend to age the wearer in my opinion.

The media is not brainwashing anybody; just trying to sell stuff and portray reality. Popularity is often a product of chance, but once something becomes popular it feeds on its own popularity. The Nigerian media shows a lot of attractive women with weaved hair, but that's just because the Nigerian women they are trying to portray also wear braids. The media has no agenda. And there's nothing particularly bad in admiring one thing or the other from another race. Whites admire our natural "tan", too, right?

Doesn't 'relaxed' hair look more attractive and isn't it easier to comb? No. Relaxed hair isn't any more attractive. It is easier to comb, which by itself is enough for those industries to survive.

Doesn't 'relaxed' hair look more attractive and isn't it easier to comb? One man's meat is another man's fish. So "no" it is not objectively more attractive, to you on the other hand. . .? Easier to comb? Well you won't know until you've had a hair full of natural hair and a head full of relaxed hair. I've had both. There are pros & cons to every style or situation & hair is not different. And there's nothing particularly bad in admiring one thing or the other from another race. Nothing at all. The Nigerian media shows a lot of attractive women with weaved hair, but that's just because the Nigerian women they are trying to portray also wear braids. This is nonsensical. Can you rephrase? The media has no agenda. False. Do not pass GO. Do not collect $200. The media's agenda is to create insecurity so that people will believe that they must better themselves w/ their product. What better way to create insecurity among Black people (i.e., create money for themselves) than to sell WHITE WOMANHOOD? Brilliant, no? Whites admire our natural "tan", too, right? No. They admire their tans. Our color is the object of fascination and proof of the exotic a la How can God paint in such colors? If that's your idea of a compliment so be it. The media is not brainwashing anybody; just trying to sell stuff and portray reality. Sure they haven't brainwashed you? Shhhh! Don't respond. I hate the sound of denial. Really Nwoke this post was quite uninterrogated.

Chinani please tell me which dictionary I will need to consult to find the meaning of the word "uninterrogated" as used in your last post under this subject. Remember that the wanton deployment of such "dictionary-breaking" grammar may cause mental anguish to innocent bystanders.

@ JakumoWow. After much interrogation, I've found that the word does not come up with the free online dictionaries. Does anyone have a subscription to the Oxford English Dictionary? Anyway sha it's still a word. I picked it up in college. Here's a a link to some academic papers as proof: http://scholar.google.com/scholar?q=uninterrogated&hl=en&lr=&start=20&sa=NIt basically means "without formal and systematic (read: scientific) questioning". I didn't know the word wasn't widely used but I'll be back w/ a bonafide definition. @ MochafellaI wasn't in a bad mood. I was just calling it like I saw it.

For a minute there Chinani I thought you had been listening to George Bush's speeches too often, and were starting to utter a few "Bushism's" in your spoken English as a result. The context you have explained does give the word "uninterrogated" an understandable meaning, even though it is a phrase that is not in widespread use.

Nferyn forgive my ignorance, but could you please quote Godwin's Law. I am aware of "The Peter Principle", which states that every person rises to their own level of INcompetence, and I am also familiar with "The Law of Diminishing Returns" which states that any given job expands to fill the time allocated for its completion, but "Godwin's Law" sounds like another possible addition to my collection of worldly wisdom sound-bites, so I would be grateful for this quote.

Hi Jakumo, You must be relatively new on the internet (no offense intended). The wiki-page on Godwin's law states that: As an online discussion grows longer, the probability of a comparison involving Nazis or Hitler approaches oneIn layman's terms it boils down to the fact that once somebody mentions Nazi's or Hitler in an online discussion, the discussion is basically screwed up. As GW Bush (or the Chimp in Chief as some call him amicably) is very close to Hitler in the eyes of many people (I personally find the very in very close debatable), I stated that Old Glory almost broke Godwin's law.

Thanks for the lowdown on Godwin's Law, Nferyn, and you are right that my online experience is somewhat limited. If it were up to me, smoke signals or nocturnal drumming would remain the primary modes of communication worldwide.

GW? And who are you? Tony Blairwell you are a tool but I guess that's where the similarities end. j/k. Anyhow, Bush's water is imported from France & then laced w/ gasoline -- for the love of it sha -- so we're both safe from unknown influences. My dear Old Glory, 1. I claim the title resident feminist on nairaland No quarrel there. My Residency wouldn't be cheap. Are you listening Nwoke? Anyway, let's call this freelance.
