Help With Html In My Web Page

Can any one explain whats happening in my webpage. I am trying to replace the $ to the £ sign I insert the HTML Code for  £ sign. I view and then save my changes ,and Logged Out .
I Go View it and the pound sign is gone just a small square box is there Help Plese
I'm using Internet Explorer 7

If that doesn't work,  it might have to do with your encoding. If not already, insert this code in your meta tag section:
<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=iso-8859-1" />

If either of the above don't work, e don pass me then
