I Love Chess: Let's Talk!
« on: April 08, 2005, 02:17 PM »

How come nobody has talked about the best capacity-building game in the world?

I play in the national championship for 5 consecutive years.  Want to challenge me to a game? Let's talk about it.

axeprince:
Thanks axeprince.  I used to play chess with a PC when I was about 15 years old.  I don't play chess any longer, but I know that a lot of people do.  I was hoping a real chess player would stumble upon the forum, and it has happened!  Thanks!

yeah i also got the chessmaster on my PC at home. there was a time i was damn serious about the game. but these days with lots of other things to do, i don't really have time to play it. used to be crazy about draught too in my secondary school days. my classmates and i used to use it to relax in between jacking while writing our WASSCE.

I'm willing to organize a Nairaland Chess Championship when our traffic goes up.  And of course there will be a "Nairaland Chess Champion".  Is this cool or what?  Cool

@Seun,I will be looking forward to the Championship, it will be nice to play competitive tournament once again.

@trae_z, I love ChessMaster but there is nothing like playing against a fellow human being, it is more interesting and you'll have something to laugh about.

I am stilll looking forward to meeting all these people with wonderful Ideas and thinking,It would be lovely

It's cool but what's the winner going to get?
I'm probably the best player in Nairaland and would only play if there's going to be a winning prize.

Admin, DECLARE the winning prize

I propose a prize of a 1000 naira recharge card for the winner of the first chess competition.  Bigger prizes are coming in the future.  How do you suggest we prevent cheating?

That's true!

how do we do that??
Seun (m)
Re: I Love Chess: Let's Talk!

Method of cheating: It is quite easy to enter the moves into a computer program and play your moves according to the output of the program!

Well, let's deal with the issue of cheating else there is likely to be no competition!

Yes, but then you won't be sure if you're playing against a computer or against a real human being.  Chess programs these days can be very good and it is possible to simply feed a game you're playing against another person to a chess program and play according to its recommendations!

Re: I Love Chess: Let's Talk!

well i do not think so because i have played a couple of games in yahooo with my friends we were in the same room playing against each other. i mean when you do not know the other party then it is likely that you are playing against a computer but to confirm that you could all be communicating through the IM and then you are more certain that you are not playing against the computer.

Re: I Love Chess: Let's Talk!

Let me explain.  Your friend on yahoo messenger could be entering your Yahoo chess game into a computer program and playing according to the computer's recommendations.

Any games we run on this forum for anything beyond just fun must involve mostly creativity and high level reasoning, which computers are not yet good at.  Or else there's no telling who is behind an online identity!
