Need A P990i

How much are u selling your P910i? I need it. your number is not complete, I would have called you.

I do not know you, nor am i ever likely to know you, but please, i beg of you, do not buy a P990i!
there's a reason why most of the reviews have been average, why most people complain about boggy, slow firmware, why 2 people i know have seen their phones crash, why you cannot hard-reset the bloody phone unless you boot into the OS itself, why you cannot flash the firmware (to remove the terrible bugs) without being connected to the internet, a reason why most people are pissed off because the firmware starts flashing when it's downloading from the internet at 50%, meaning that if your internet connection goes down during the flashing process, your phone becomes a brick!

I'm speaking from experience here. The P990i is a crappy phone, and i know loads of people who have sworn never to buy any Sony Ericcson phone again because of this piece of crapola.

The p990i is now pretty stable with the latest firmware upgrade, so make sure you know how to upgrade the firmware before buying it in order not to regret.

I don't use a p990 but my close friend has it. I helped him upgrade to the latest firmware recently and there has been some improvement. There is no other UIQ3 phone out there except the M600i and W950, unless you want to switch to windows mobile which is also good and comparable.

Well, thanks drogba but the risk is just too great.

I havent heard anything about the new firmware improving things, and the number 1 problem, ie slowness seems to persist.

On the other hand, people have succesfully upgraded HTC tytn's to windows mobile 6 and the reports are of blazing speed. I'm thinking  I will get an HTC tytn or one of its clones (imate Jasjam /Dopod 838)

They are more expensive but by all accounts better.

it's official. the P990i is the worst phone in the world. My pal's p990i suddenly stopped working, probably due to a corrup firmware.
Unlike most other popular smartphones around, you cannot update it or reflash it unless you've booted it up and connected to the internet through the phone software. Now since the phone cannot boot, it's impossible to update or repair the firmware.
Unlike any other Nokia or WinMo smartphone out there, you can't even Hard Reset the crap phone.

Took the bloody phone on a 3 week visit to Holland, the Sony Centre guys say they need 4 weeks to repair. Bottom line is, phone comes back with me unfixed, prolly dead. naturally, not even the Otigba and alaba guys can fix.

My advice? AVOID AT ALL COSTS the SE p990i. instead, aim for the p1i, don't know if that's out yet.

yes p1 is out but it does not have the same firmware with failed p990i, it uses about 80mb of ram and comes with a brand new firmware but it is built on the same UIQ3 platform  so on paper it should be stable.

Pleae don't buy that phone, it is crap, i was one of the first people to buy the phone the frist time it came out, i got it for 80k and ignored most of the warning i saw about the phone online, the result was selling the phone two weeks later due to serious problems
1 15mb of ram, on a freash boot the phone gets just 15mb of ram , for a smart for with wifi and office applications,2,0mp camera  and other multimedia capability , it is criminal
2 memory leakage the biggest problem facing the UIQ3  platform today is memory leakage, a situation were the ram of the phone just start to decrease over time without anything accounting for the lost ram, eventually the phone will then restart, and the phone can restart it self 20 times a day mostly while doing more than one thing at a time, like listening to music and browsing .or using wifi to browse, the battery sucks the phone is just a piece of brick
3 over all firmware of the phone is rubbish, and the bad news it that sonyericson said they wont be supporting the phone with new firmware  again and that the remaining problems of the phone is hardware related, to me that is the closest thing i company can come to say that this phone is a failure without actaully saying it, (for legal reasons), the problem of these is too much u just do a search on google u will be overwhelmed, p910 is better and more satble than .

1 go for w950i come with UIQ3 but it is very stable and the ram is 24mb,is got 4gb of  flash memory in built and the battery is the best i have seen since using a smart phone - and i have used 80% of nokia s60 smart phones.and dedicated music keys, very stable cus that is what am using now and i have never experienced a crash on it, and it is quite fast too.the down side is the lack of a camera and wifi.
2-go for p1 nice stable with 3.2 mp camera,and 80mb of ram, and from what i read online it is quite stable, but for now very expensive
3- wait for w960i coming out december, it an updated w950i with 3.2 mp camera,wifi,and 8gb flash memo. but from the looks of things its goin to be quite expensive so start saving now,
