   Travel and tourism is the largest industry and contineus to grow despite such as terrorism and global recession,

Talking about tourism in our Country there is much to make for potential investors and people that have passion for making hugh amount of money from travels trade activities.

By proper and careful parkaging of events and exhibitions potential investors will make loads of money from the events.We are still not looking at the directions of these gigiantic investments and high profit returns in tourism. i will keep you posted on how to invest in it.

Tourism in Nigeria? Why don't you invite a tour manager from abroad, who's never been to this country, for a trial run. Pick him up at MM International and send him on a limousine trip (maybe at night) down to Port Harcourt. Let him experience the hospitality of your highway guest houses, the feeling of security when being stopped by uncountable police check points, the welcome-to-my-country treat when encountering the community nailboard brigades. I'm not even mentioning the overall lack of basic infrastructure. I do agree though, that tourism has a great potential for making you lots of money, but you have to do your home work first. South Africa, Namibia, Botsuana, Kenia are good examples, one day it may work for Nigeria as well.

@ogbotobo
well said
the general attitude of Nigerians has to change too

Almost everywhere you go you get the feeling people are trying to rip you off, Nigerians are not as welcoming to tourists as we used to be

The Nigerian mentality of we have petrodollars we don't need your tourism dollars doesn't help
Are we seeing the oil money NO!

At least if we work on the tourism industry, opportunities are created everywhere tourists go, shopping malls, arts and crafts centres, historic sites of interest, hotels, holiday resorts, game reserves etc

All these plus more are more useful  in creating jobs locally rather than oil revenue which only the politicians and their cronies enjoy

Long live Nigeria!

Hi guys, we seem to be missing a very important aspect is this discussion. Businesses like tourism do not work in a vacuum. Do a quick study of countries where tourism thrives and you will see that there is a robust government infrastructure within which these businesses are run. Also other sectors of the economy must be fully functional e.g hotels, transportation, entertainment industries and so on.

- The most important thing, first and foremost, is the "attraction" itself (either man-made or Natural). Kilimanjaro is located next to villages in Tanzania, and yet tourists troop in from all around the world. As long as basic infrastructure exists - that is roads, power and water supply etc.

I believe their is alway cause and effect, if tourism abounds, so will hospitality, transportation, entertainment industries etc. For instance, i personally think it is unwise for a businessman to invest money into building hotels hoping that tourists would soon come unless you have substantial proofs. If you visit downtowns of most states in the US you would find road (re)construction here and there,   this is mostly acceptable as long as the contructions do not deter transportation.
