THE ASSOCIATION OF NIGERIAN PHYSICIANS IN THE AMERICAS (ANPA), was incorporated in 1995 for educational, scientific, charitable and social purposes as a tax-exempt non-profit organization under Section 501(c) (3) of the Internal Revenue Code.
ANPA represents the professional, political and social interests of the 4,000 plus physicians, dentists and allied health professionals of Nigerian birth, ethnicity or empathy in the United States, Canada and the Caribbean.
ANPA provides a platform for medical, scientific, political and social dialogue, on issues of health within North America, the Caribbean and Africa, pertinent to persons of descent from the Nigerian Diaspora.
Niigeria is a microcosm of Africa. 1 in 4 or 5 Africans is a Nigerian. Experience gained and methodologies developed in Nigeria can be extended to other sub-saharan African countries with only few local modifications.
ANPA Vision / Mission is A Healthier Nigeria in a Healthier World. Our Vision and Mission is achieved through the following on-going activities and future undertakings:
Our Medical Missions offer us the opportunity to provide free healthcare to the medically indigent, in rural parts of Nigeria. We get firsthand experience of the issues and the nature of health problems of the vast majority of Nigerians. It enables us to exchange views, share experience and participate in collaborative care with our local counterpart. We are able to educate Nigerian institutions, businesses, and other organizations on the health system of the US. and Canada.
The Annual ANPA Conventions - We address current issues of healthcare in Africa, such as HIV, Women' s Health, Pediatric Health, Alma Ata Declaration, Environmental Health including oil pollution, Health Care financing in Africa, Mental Health, Capacity building, Provider Education and Training of Physicians and other Healthcare providers.
Internet Communication - ANPA was the first organization to provide internet connection to a number of major Nigerian Universities. We have also broadcast our conventions on internet and hope to create a link between African Institutions and US. Institutions such as Ohio State University, etc.
Through our e-group we engage in lively on-going discussions on current healthcare issues that are of interest to our community. We maintain a website dedicated to providing information and services to our Community.
Directory - We publish a directory and maintain a database of Nigerian physicians in the US, Canada and the Caribbean with the specialty and location of their practices. Thus we are able to reach Nigerian physicians in general and when necessary, can call on experts in the appropriate specialties for recommendations.
Networking - With over 2,500 Nigerian born or trained physicians in the US., Canada and the Caribbean, ANPA's Annual Conventions and local chapter activities provide forums to share our experiences and pool our expertise for a healthier Nigeria in a healthier world.
Policy Advocacy - We meet with African leaders and officials in charge of Health Care, such as the President of Nigeria, the Minister of Health and other senior government officials to offer policy recommendation to the Government on issues such as HIV, medical education and health care financing.

Other Activities
We participate in International forums and meetings such as National Summit on Africa and Grantmaker Conference, to educate participants such as US. policymakers, US businesses and other organizations on the health system in Nigeria and the healthcare needs of Nigerians.
We collaborate with well meaning groups and organizations providing specialized medical care in Nigeria.
We participate in local health fares in the US., Canada and the Americas providing education, information and health care to all.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Future Plans
-Collaborate with other African Physician Communities to form regional associations.
-Extend our partnership to Nigerian born or trained physicians in Europe, Middle East and African countries outside Nigeria.
-Extend our Medical Mission to all of Sub-Saharan Africa.
-Foster research and collaboration between African researchers and their counterparts in the US., Canada and the West.
-Ensure that African health benefits from Cyber Space Medicine and the Information revolution.
