Geologists In The House
« on: May 24, 2007, 08:56 AM »

How many geologist is ready for Oil n Gas jobs?
If you are ready, then we must put our heads together.
Our greatest problem in this our field is  getting job experience.
I now challange our fellow great geologists with some job experience
to start interacting/advicing us.We are all practical people,i believe.
If we discuss regularly with the experienced, then we can learn alot.
I love u all,thank you.

You too much, i believe u. I guess we should open this thread for all geologists.
Lets put heads together and see what  comes out of it.
meanwhile, i just have 2 tell u this: just believe in yourself and see how u can develop yourself,
never restrict yourself, a geologist is supposed 2 be rugged.
I will be back on this thread.

Eseclem,Yolde,Fredosky,Daluoa,Oklan,Sgeneral and others;A very big thanks to you all for that quick response.
The truth of the matter is just that we have started and i believe, the sky is our limit.Meanwhile i got admission at the Robert Gordon University,Aberdeen in the UK to study Oil and Gas Engineering.I have just paid the tuition fees but do you think Drilling and well Engineering wouldn`t have been a better choice?I need your response as i believe we`re one.
Godbless.

Congratulations!!
Well, i feel oil and gas engineering has a broader scope. This will give u the opportunity to be quite flexible in the industry. However, drilling and well engineering, is a more specialized field. Employers actually look out for peeps in this field.
They both av pros and cons. Just weigh ur options well enough!!
All the best.

How and when did u apply? I'm presently serving in Lagos and I'm seriously scouting for a good place to do  my 2nd degree outside this country.

I thank God that an awareness is springing up in the house. You've just touched on an unspoken agitation that has been bottled up in every unemployed geologist's thoughts. My suggestions: lets form a yahoo group or, better still, a website, which will co-ordinate efforts of employed geologists in the industries and the unemployed in the job market. It's a suggestion, and I will like comments. My name is Ally Agakwu, a geologist, hydrogeologist and engineering geologist, and I am available for futher discussion.

hi there
I like the initiative , although i 'm not a geologist myself but an engineer with experience in the oil and gas industry and actively seeking employment in the  oil n gas industry ,i think sharing information through this forum will be a welcome development as it will give insight and knowledge to those who do not have the prerequiste experience employers are seeking for and also share information about the latest state of the art technologies in the oil and gas /minning industries.

please i will also like those with experience to update us with journals or notes on such techs so that the upcoming ones can get to digest it at their own spare time.
we need to put in more vigor into this as the oil industry is on the verge of seeking a great crew change i.e the old guys are leaving and so there is a vacuum in most position which must be filled!
So interacting in a forum like this will give nairalanders the edge over 'others',please keep up the good work.

by the way any DRILLING ENGINEERS in the House ,please holla back!

Hello Younger granites, I am impressed with  your comments.Anyway there are alot of basins for our deposition what we all need is a slight tectonic activity to displace us(EXPERIENCE).Best wishes

Geology Rocks!!
We are obviously getting bigger!!
I guess we need volunteers who would have to come together(probably on line) to see how exactly we can create our own world in making sure we get things started.Committed peeps with frequent access to the internet. I'm gladly in.We have loads options to explore.i see a very bright future for us all.

Glad tofraternise with fellow Geologists.

It is a great idea.

I have constant internet access on work days and would be glad to collaborate on any good idea.

Let us start by asking Seun to give us a space for Geologists on this site if possible.

Well, I have limited experience in Engineering geology having worked on 12 Grade A projects in 13 states of the Federation within 4 months as supervisor and project officer.

I must state that Engineering Geology is a field where a young geologist can start small. However there are challenges of getting the first jobs/projects especially if one does not have the contacts.

I suggest we look at ways of collaborating to work on small jobs together and those on big projects could employ others on contract basis under them.

I would forever be grateful to a senior colleague who once employed me on a contract basic to work on a small geophysical investigation job (howbeit that i worked for free). The experience I gained there was to open ways for me in the geotechnical firm where I worked briefly before setting on the move.

I look forward to more gainful employment, particularly in the oil and gas industry, and i know we could all give one or two ideas or information that would lift us all up.

Thanks.
YEMI

I subscribe to this beautifull idea. I studied geology and have been in advertising/PR since graduating. But my desire is still to practice geology but like we all know work experience is always the challenge.
Count me in.

This is a dream come true. I've been thinking about the prospect of young geo graduates looking 4 jobs outside our field when they have studied viably professional course. I want is it that geosciences professional bodies don't have an exam body? Where one can be certified.

I want say that geo family will make it. We will break the pegmatite (not the barren one anyway). Then will have cause to smile as we wait for the metarmorphism in the Nigerian political, economic and fianancial complex.
