Well fact is no one can tell u when God is indeed talking to you, but for you to be able to deduce when this manifestation happens and how to watch out and recognise it. God will talk to you at a time that you will hear his words, whether you heed it is another question. God speaks in divers manners. He can speak to you through His word, He can speak to you through your pastor, He can equally speak to you through inspirational literatures. what is important for you is to understand when God speaks. I don't know for what you want God to speak to you but let me advise you on one and most effiecient way God can speak to you and that is reading His word in a quiet secluded place, through the lines of the Bible God can illuminate a passage that will send just the right message you are waiting for, try this out and tell us how u felt. God bless you in your quest to hear Him.

My youngest daughter, who accepted Christ in her life, asked me the same question one day. She wanted to know how does one know when God is speaking to them, for she heard many of her brothers and sisters in Christ say, "God spoke to my spirit or heart" about this or that. And she was getting frustrated, for she felt as though she did not have a personal experience with God speaking to her. She began to feel something was wrong with her as a Christian.
I explained to her that when you first accept Christ as your Lord and Savior, you are newly born into the kingdom of Christ, and you have so many things to learn. I told her when God speaks to my heart or spirit, it is a "still voice" within me. I remember when I was preparing to come to Lagos, Nigeria and marry my husband, and some people were against it. They feared for my safety, for I was flying for the first time, traveling to a foreign country alone as a woman, and marrying a man that they knew little about. One morning in the shower, God said to me, "Fear Not!" I was not thinking about the trip at that moment, and it caught me off guard. I looked up toward the ceiling, for it was just that powerful. It was not an audible voice that I heard, but the strength of those words and assurance I felt when I heard, "Fear Not!", carried me from South Carolina to Lagos, Nigeria. You have to know that prior to that flight, which was my first flight, I feared flying. Matter fact, I said I would NEVER fly unless someone called me and said my child, mother or sister or brother were harmed, and I had to get to them quickly. I really had a serious fear of flying. However, I loved my, then fiance, so very much that I did not reflect on the hours I would be in the air on the plane, but I first "spoke out loud to relatives and friends" that I was going to marry him. After that people tried to convince me that it was very unsafe to travel to Lagos with all the Travel Warnings, and he is a Nigerian. God may have known I needed encouragement, and he spoke to me unexpectantly in the shower one morning. Thank God for it. When the plane shook occassionally due to turbulence, I knew that it would not come down, for God has said to me personally, "Fear Not!".
When God speaks to your heart (inside of you), you will know it is him. It is a very personal experience for everyone, so ask him to give you the assurance that it is his voice.

He speaks in diverse ways.Some include:
1. Through His WORD.You may be going through a particular situation and all of a sudden, you read a biblie passage you may have read before but now gives a new meaning adderessing your situation.
2. Through a fellow human being,BUT make sure it does not contradict HIS WORD.
3. Its always good to move away from the crowd and noise to hear that still small voice that floods your soul with peace thereafter that you will know only God can do that.
4. Through peculiar situations and circumstances.
In all, be prayerful,be grounded in the WORD and be in the spirit, For as many as are led by the Spirit of God are the sons of God Rom 8:14

Yes God does speak through various ways. The experience I shared with you was just one way he can speak. Read your bible daily, meditate on his word, and pray to God. In doing those things, you will discover more of God and he will begin to speak to you.

Adam and Eve heard the voice of which they knew to be God, or the Lord. In order to speak you must have a larynx, and its functions are to produce sounds and keep food from entering the trachea. Does this mean that God eats,? which means he needs food, and thus making him in need of a digestive system?

I guess a new thread or a previous one will do for "the black jesus" of a thing. This should be a thread to write about how God speaks to us, Tellyb, you never can tell , if truly Horus is on the wrong path , maybe he may pick up some new strings to pull here and so hears God speaking to me. 1Corinth.1:18
As for me God will always speak to you in different ways just like others had pointed out. If you didn't realise in an instance, he uses another means-The Scriptures, Sermon, Direct encounter, symbolic occurances even through a mad man!

@richylaw, I appreciate yours. However, whether or not Horus is on the wrong path is quite a different thing from his actually seeking to learn. If someone has made up his/her mind before examining what he calls FACTS, then it is hightime to take him home for some personal schooling. And I'd like to start here with his theory of a " black jesus" as lesson 1. Meanwhile, it doesn't stop the flow of the thread topic. Perhaps opening another thread is not going to yield much fruit anyway, because there's absolutely nothing to say on such fallacies.  |

If what you hear is in line with the word of God and you have a peace in your heart which is unexplainable then it is God. When God has spoken to you, you are no longer confused, God's voice just settles it just like pmdaboh said about her experience when she was going to Nigeria.
Even if there is a danger ahead and God speaks to you, you will have his peace and his assurance that you will be victorious.
Please understand that God will speak only if you are willing to Obey and you must obey the last word he gave you before you move ahead.
Guess what even i am being blessed as I write this.

Hey, i will like to thank you all that sent one or two ways on how to hear from GOD, i must say i have been blessed with what you all have sent, i will like you to know that i have always been hearing from GOD but i still have the inner me telling me i will still need to hear more from GOD at all time that is the reason i was trying to get different ways by which we can hear from GOD. Thanks to you all and it is my prayer that GOD will always bless you all and meet you at your point of needs. Amen. I will also like us to pray this pray for our country Nigeria.

Yes really, God do speak to us! I think the only problem with mankind is that when you are too occupied your minds with unnecessary things. And that is why we may not really understand when God speak.
The more closer you are to God, the more you hear Him speak. It could be likened to a child that is always closer the the parent, they understand the parents, even the body odor of the parents!
So dear, be closer to God and you will hear Him speak to you clear and loud!

Let me see if i can help a little , God speaks through many way and in the Bible most were through Dreams and Vision, He can speak through his rhema or Logos word, He can speak through still small voice, He can speak through an open vision, He can speak through you in you dream, He can speak to you through revelation knowledge OK, but there are still many many ways he do speak,,, |

Great replies from y'all. However, when it comes to dreams, people should be very careful as the devil can come in such way too. Which ever way, with time, you get to know how God does get through to you in any of the ways mentioned above by others
