Let's Support Our Local League, Now
« on: May 28, 2007, 11:55 AM »

Thank God, the buzz and hype around the English premiership is now over, atleast till another season. In between we are going to have our own Super Four. Now, the question is this, why is it so difficult for us to support and propel our own teams to greatness. How many of us follow the local football league? We have to start now, because ours is really our own. And the future of the beautifull games depends on our local league. Support  a local club now. Up Lobi Stars!

1) They have no website  Cheesy
2) They don't do press conferences
3) we can't see the games Youtube
4) the pitches are horrible, its like they don't have eyes, it is not really difficult to have plain fields with grass is it?  Undecided
5) The jersey is usually oversize or wonky
6) the only news you read is about how they beat up the referee
7) when you read nigeria newspapers all you read about is EPL

complainer of the year 2007 Cool

Sani lulu should be castrated for fustrating the nfl anyway Up Afonja FC  Grin

It's not a matter of 'supporting' the league.  If the provides entertainment to people, they will care about it!

Some of us were ardent supporters of the local league until "condition make crayfish bend".

DisGuy has outlined some of the issues but they are more reasons why our local league is not appealing to us anymore  I was a strong supporter of Julius Berger FC Lagos and still hold the team dear, now i hear they are to become extinct.

I was watching a London movie today (Green street) and was telling my mates that the passion that the British and some of us(Adopted fans) dedicate to the premiership is nothing compared to ordinary Principal's cup in Lagos. My mother will not cease to tell me of how even as a lady, was an active member of Stationary stores FC supporters club in the good old days.

I vividly remember a match between Enyimba and Julius Berger in Lagos (many years ago),  you should have seen the mass exodus of Ibo brovas from Idumota to surulere to support their team. People fought with riot police and even scaled the high walls of National stadium to catch a glimpse of the match in a full stadium. The only ime i saw the Stadium that full and chaotic was when Shaggy perfomed at the edifice.

If NFA and the concerned bodies especially the Media could up their game, you would be surprised to see Nigerians abandoning Chelsea ans Arsenal (except Man. You Cheesy) for 3SC and Sharks FC.

PS: British Sky Broadcasting (BSKYB) or Sky TV as u may know it is the backbone of the premiership, not the government what is the Nigerian media doing?

gone are the days when we followed VIP united, stationery stores, BCC lions of gboko religiously.
The good old days of Moses Kpakpor, Edema Fuludu, arthur moses, ike shorunmu e.t.c.c
In those days we didnt even know the English league existed.

despite all that u have said i still love and follow the nigerian league with passion, i was at the super four last year and this year i don't think i will make it to warri because work is tight, but the teams that are going to be there are wikki tourist, rangers, enyimba and gombe united, can't wait to see uche kalu, ajibade omolade, jude mounayan, ibrahim ndala, junior osagie et all,
besides i am a gunner twelve years and still running

I was born and bred Rangers. My loyalty transcends win and loss. It's a tradition handed down from generation to generation. I've not watched them play for almost a decade, but the mere fact that they're there representing is enough fun and glory for me. Admitted, foreign clubs can offer lots of entertainment but I still don't feel them like my Flying Antelopes.

UP RANGERS!!!

Why?
We don't even know when the league will start.
The home team always wins by 1-0 margin
You mistakenly go to a march and area boys will mug u
boardroom points
super four includes rangers today. gombe tomorrow
NFA is not even sure of match results
have u watched these matches on supersport lately?
the pitches are a disaster

need i say more?

In d 2nd game played yesterday, Rangers beat Gombe united by a goal. T was a Superb Volley. D man behind eyimba's caf champions league success 2nd former governor of abia state was present alongside d governor of gombe state. I hear there was very tight security around surulere by d police and opc boys. Eyimba plays rangers tomorrow.  Stadium capacity is about 45000. Get your tickets at d national stadium.

The European Football Craze is a BIG distraction
« #27 on: June 09, 2007, 08:19 PM »

Guys,
I personally loathe this European football craze all over the place, with a passion. I think that too much resources are wasted making noise about what is essentially Other People's Business (and when I say business, I mean business).

Its a bigger shame that rather than look back home to develop the sports infrastructure right here, our 'leaders' only look to capitalize on people's passion in this area, for selfish reasons.

Until stadia, mass media, especially well-equipped TV OB systems, "NEPA", etc are strengthend and standardized, you'd never love what you see of Nigerian football. Everybody should copy me and altogether wean themselves off football (except of course if you're a football professional!). The country needs our energies in critical development-oriented areas like IT and Medicine!
