It's just that Yoruba has much more historical literature written about it in the America's than Igbo. So I assumed that I fit with the great mass's of Yoruba's that must be here.

Man, this is so special to know. People in my family asking how to spell Igbo and such.

We can not even begin to know yet what it means to us. Just happy to know, to finally know.

You are wellcome to the family, we would teach you some Igbo words, and I hope you would try to explore the Igbo culture, the Yoruba culture is more written about in America because of the influence of the south American Yoruba's who were not as unfortunate as the igbo's in the north that were litterally stripped of there culture by Anglo Americans, I had that Tara Banks is equally an Igbo.

This DNA thing is a joke, and really shows how little these guys know about Africa.

One question Drusilla, don't you have 2 grandfathers and 2 grandmothers?. . .Did you check those?

What does it mean to be Igbo? Are you an Igbo from prsent day Imo State or one from present day Enugu state?. . .Who are very different people by the way.

How sure are you that you're Igbo and not EFIK?. . .There is probably more genetic similarity between an Igbo from Abia and an Efik from Cross River. What about Igbos from Enugu and people from Benue state?. . .People who have been intermarrying since who knows when. In colonial period, one will find it hard to differentiate between an Efik and an Igbo.

How is it that you're 100% Igbo?. . .Is there really a DNA strain out there that Igbos ALONE possess and Efiks or Tivs do not?

Point is: How do you know you're Igbo and not Efik, Ibibio or something? Huh

This isn't really abot Drusilla, it's about this trace your African ancestry FRAUD. You have mixed people claiming Igbo, really?. . .Then we have Oprah claiming Zulu? How is that really? What do Zulus have in their DNA that Bantus don't?. . .The whole thing is a fraud, like people don't intermarry or something.

We know that these things can not be entirely accurate, but believe me if you don't know anything about your ancestors, what ever little information you get helps, and in the case of most African Americans the phenotypical expressions are still there, and that equally helps tremendously.

are you saying that my son a mixed race child can not claim Igbo, not withstanding that he has four grand parents from the mothers side and four from mine, is not really the time to be so insensitive, what for?, don't spoil somebody's happines, cause it comes out very cold .

the genotype of the two groups might not differ, but believe me their phenotype would slightly differ, no matter how minute, but this is not the case, and not the time for some ureasonable analysis, just be happy for her, wont cost you anything.

the Origin of th white American's has never been in dispute, all of them know their origin without resulting to DNA test, no body ever tryed to strip them of their identity, so this a different case.

How can your son claim Igbo genetic origin when he has mixed genes? Huh

Stop being a clown, you couldn't tell who was Igbo in a lineup of my brothers. You definitely cannot tell Efiks from Igbos by phenotype.

Nobody told me this was all for FUN. Is it better to know that you're from Southern Nigeria (without knowing the ethnic group) and be right, than be told that you're Igbo and be wrong? Huh

Donzman quit being delusional, in Nigeria people claim their fathers side [and you Donzman can't change it so live with it], while  in Ghana people claim their mothers side, do you know that the father of the former President of Ghana ''Jerry Rawlings'' was a Scottish man, go and tell Jerry Rawlings that he is not a Ghanaian or what ever his mothers ethnic group,

note:
I tryed to reason with you but unfortunately you can not be reasoned with, not my type, this is my last respond on this subject, we shall meet again on other subjects, but on this?, zip.

no, many if not most white Americans don't know their origin. They are just as mixed as the African Americans.

Most of them will tell you they're a mix of german, Irish, Italian, Dutch, native Indian, and others.

African ancestry doesnt have to be limited to AAs alone.

Although I must say, I'm very suspicious of these DNA tests.  I wouldnt even bother doing it, because I already know what the answer will be. They seem to have only one type of result.

Did anybody see that special with Oprah Winfrey and Chris Tucker tracing their African DNA?

Well the tribe they attached Oprah Winfrey too in West Africa and the tribe they attached Chris Tucker too in Angola -- were only like 85 and 89 percent matches.

So the fact that my DNA came out a 100 percent match for Igbo, is in fact saying something.

I probably could trace down my exact village, DNA wise. LOL

Kaecy5,

You have to remember that I am an African American. The bottom line is that to me, Black people are just black people.

It is the same with all Diasporans. Off the continent you are just Black. Period. Don't nobody care what tribe your from.

As I advise all Diasporans, take the DNA test for personal cuteness but don't try to use it to begin to separate Black people from Black People.

925,

A lot of slaves were bought from Jamaica and elsewhere and shipped North. So I just thought it would be natural to be from the majority Yoruba. The Igbo argument is new to me.

By the way, my grandmother is dead, we tested her brother, who is the last living relative of that generation. So this DNA trace comes down through the male line. It is our Materal Paternal line.

The test are expensive (300$) so we went for the oldest one first before he died off. We think it is possible to test an older aunt and get our maternal maternal line. But we going to have to wait for that.

Some people in our family want to put the place we are from on this years Family Reunion T-shirts.

Nana a boo boo.
