Restitution: What Is Your Opinion?

A traditional man heard the gospel of Christ and gave his life to Christ. He, with his two wives and 15 children began to attend church and were very zealous for the Lord. One day, the pastor preached a very powerful sermon on restitution. He said that every man must marry only one wife, and thus church members who had more than one wife should send the other(s) with their children away. That the other wives should go look for their own husbands.

This man was in a fix: how could/would he send his wife, who has lived with him for 20 years, and his seven kids away?

Restitution is preached in many churches. And believe me, it is not an easy matter. I just want to know your opinion about it. Is it right or wrong?

That case had nothing to do with restitution. The bible is against divorce as well.

My take is to make right what u can and leave the rest. U obviously can't restitute for all the wrongs u made cuzz u can't know them all.

Scriptures says "Let him that steal, steal no more". Just change ur ways sincerely. Thats all.

The Bible did not say that polygamy is a sin. Apostle Paul only made reference to it concerning that appointment of Bishops, Deacons and some other church leaders  that they be people with only one wife. Which means that in new testament days there were folks with so many wives. So the issue of sending away one of his wives has nothing to do with restitution.

To me,polygamy is wrong but in the other hand, sending his wife away just like that is not right either. He married her already so, he can always rent a seperate house for them and continue to take care of them as part of his family in every way.
I guess that is the right thing to do.

This is not easy at all and at the same time it is very good because some women wont put their eyes off another woman's husband. In the Bible days (old testament) polygamy was allowed, I think it's because of some women's attitude that this law was created.

Pastors just need to mind their own business sometimes and stop creating difficult situation for innocent people.  How can he expect the man to get rid of his wife of 20 years like that. I'm sure if that man live a good life, he will make heaven before many of the hypocritical pastors.

Its not even easy to handle one wife let alone two. If the women involved are cool with it , then so be it- shit !

In the old testament , men of God married more than one wives for whatever reasons personal to them. I don't think God is interested on how many wives you have but the content of your actions toward him, your self and your fellow men.

I think he should get rid of that church and Quit the bull shit!

this is not a case of restitution and am not so sure the pastor's sermon was powerful because the outcome was indeed very riduculous.

restitution is easily misunderstood. in the case where it was mentioned in the bible, we saw someone returning what he took wrongly. should this man send the children back to God? even that woman is still his wife. but if he stole cars and land, then he should return those.

the idea of restitution must come in a reasonable context.. the bible dosnt condemn marrying two wives, it only advices against it ( see proverbs)..  i concur that the man can rent a place for the iyawo and keep iyale in his house..

You are correct. That is how this matter should be handled but his first wife will be with him under thesame roof while others will be in different roof but the man will still be responsible for there living and welfare but they will cease to  be husband and wives.

Deyemi is correct.

A ploygamist that is born again is still a child of God.
He only cannot aspire to leadership.

How would a man who raped a lady make restitution when he is born again?Huh?

Apostle Paul said:
"1Co 7:11  But and if she depart, let her remain unmarried, or be reconciled to her husband: and let not the husband put away his wife."
I think this passage gives a clear understanding of the scripture.
You are only free when the unbelieving wife departs herself not you sending her out. (1Co 7:15)
Restitution is good but the main thing is not the act but the heart that you have towards what you have done.

To send away the second wife is surely unscriptural, this kind of issue is only sorted out by God Himself. what we should get straight is that God is against polygamy (Adam was only married to Eve), but if a man marries more than one wive due to his own depravity and he later meets with God,  he should remain so if the wives are willing of their own volition to stay. His occupation will then be to raise the family in the fear and nuture of God. But the honest truth is that he will have challenges reconcilling his new beleive with meeting the demands of his wives. Those of us who are married to only one wife can save ourselfs this heart ache
