they both do great laptops but i suggest u stay with HP; they have a handy service center in lagos.
so your warranty and services can be handled professionally.

I'll have to go with Dell. Every HP laptop owner I know has had problems with it. Not so with Dell owners.
Definitely go with Dell!
(if your pocket is deep enough, get an Apple laptop, like Macbook or Macbook Pro!)

let's not also forget HP gives you better sound than Dell. i've owned a Dell Inspiron and my uncle presently uses a Compaq Presario. i tell you HP/Compaq sweep Dell under the carpet.
