Hello I work with an NGO. First of all what part of Community work do you want to do. Do you want to work with youths, or Women and Gender issues,HIV/AIDS, Charity , etc. You have to be specific so that you can know where to start looking.
Working with an NGO popular to contrary believe is not about money but requires serious passion, commitment and hard work, but if you have a passion for working in these areas it can be really fulfilling when you see the impact you make on the lives of people.
Please Specify which area you want and post back if you can. Have a nice day

Hello, @flakydudu, I am happy you brought up this issue, thank you and I hope you would allow me leverage on your initiative as it is my passion as well.

Hi, @aisha, I am also interested in this kind of job especially one with a career prospect as a community development worker. I am particularly interested in thematic areas such as environment, poverty alleviation and social enterprenuership. If you can assist, I would be willing to work in Lagos because I am presently studying for a higher degree here. Thanx

Dear poster, like i said if you want to work with an NGO you have to forget about the money first. Because in most of them u ahve to start as a voluteer. That is so much work wit little or no pay. Then you will work in remote areas for days. Am saying this because the passion has to be there and u prove yourself first before d money comes. If you are interested u can apply as a volunteer to some of the international NGOs,
you can search the net for their addresses am a bit tied to work now but when am less busy i can send some of the adds. Hope you don't mind.

Aisha, its good you cleared the air about having the passion for the job at hand and not the pay.  I'm always passionate about the cause of women, especially abused and battered women.  However, i have no idea on how to volunteer.  I reside now in Abuja and would be much obliged if i'm connected to any NGO.  I had a two weeks internship programme with an NGO called Constitutional Rights Projects(CRP).  It's a very good NGO, because they are passionate about educating, not only the public, but the legislators and police force about the rule of law and supremacy of the constitution.  They also help in law suits involving human rights.  I wouldn't exchange those two weeks for any thing.  So if there's any voluntary work, even in your NGO, please let me know.  MY number is 08059160606 and my email is zyka4real@yahoo.com. Keep up the good work

Hello Aisha  and others!
I am a multi cultural oriented individual with knowledge of a major foreign language apart from English. Currently, i am running an MSW (Master in Social Work) programme at the premier university while Community Development is my area of specialisation, and i intend to focus on "youths". I have had field placements at a Local Govt. Secretariat in Ibadan, the UCH, and soon will be going to the prison for another placement. I however need links to more standard organisations especially the International NGOs in Abuja for more practical experience. Also i think establishing interactions with people like you who are already in the field will go a long way.
Here is my contact : yinkajunaid2002@yahoo.co.uk mobile: 08038084576. I sincerely hope to hear from you soon.
 Cheers!

Hello all,

Its so nice to see the number of people that are willing to volunteer their services for free. It is not easy at all when you do not have the passion for it. I had to volunteer and was trained during my NYSC as a Peer Educator Trainer under UNICEF. After the first six months, my report was so impressive that I was called to Owerri for a refresher-training course to enable me train Corps members to be PETs.

Before service however, I worked with the youth federation for world peace at the Peace Embassy at Wuse 2 in Abuja. I would however, like to continue this service but I also require contacts of reputable NGOs where I can volunteer my services. Mt addy is davejanna@hotmail.com and my phone number is 08035908598. Thanks

« #30 on: June 13, 2007, 10:33 AM »

well,i think its actually interesting to see a lot of people vot e to work with NGO's,but point of notice.

i hope its not for financial gains?because if it is,u'll be dazed.i work with an NGO, and for real it could be frustrating when you see your pay and if you do have to travel milws to get to your home or work everyday, but its the passion that will definitely get you going.

Now for volunteers,it is known that no salary is paid, but you could get stipends for transportation.

well, the joyful thing in all these,is that you know that you are affecting lives for good, never expecting gains in return, though it may come on the long run.

For those who actually want to start somewhere, there are a lot of NGOs,orphanages included, where you could share your love with others.

I am about to start with an orphanage myself, despite where i am.
One love!
