Igbos, Why Are You People Proud?
« on: June 07, 2007, 12:52 PM »

It is only the Igbos in Nigeria that make statements like "I am Igbo and proud", Yorubas and Hausas don't make such statements.

Whether we're empty barrels or full gallons, what biz of yours is it?? Hiya, abeg go and boast about your own tribe joo, if you don't want to then leave us t make noise to the fullest at the tops of our voice, isn't it for free?? Tongue

It sounds more like an "envious" attack to me oo!!

lmao at this topic, shoo! This is exactly what am talkin' about. I never heard no ibo person sayin' that statement u wrote up there. I bet ur yoruba. most of y'all yoruba people love tellin' igbo people that they're proud. so, it's d other way round. I remember when i was younger, back in naija. I was in this school full of mostly yoruba people. and  am good at english--- my fav. subject. i loved spellin' tests. so, am always excited when we have them. This girl is always tryin' to copy off me. smtimes when i refuse, she'D be like "u're too proud. are u d only smart person?" am like "shoo, i know am not, so why don't u go ask d other smart people, why ask me?". see, my point?. Y'all love sayin' smone is too proud or "forward", still don't know what d hell d latter means. shld a person be backward? idk. let me just stop. it's really annoyin' now this topic. anywayz, we no send u.

i have been living in a bottle all my life because i am coming across this perception about my people.and it is rather pathetic that even as Nigerians we can think so lowly of our fellow brothers and sisters from other ethnic groups

am ibo and yes i am proud to be ibo.but i am also proud of my other fellow brothers and sisters from the yoruba, hausa and other groups.so please disabuse your minds from such false and parachial perceptions. they are but setbacks that will do nothing positive in your life.

@ Topic. U are so right about Igbo's being proud and am loving it. Am very proud to be an Igbo. Once in my freshman year in college my counselor once asked me about my tribe and I said Igbo then she said " Ive some Igbo friends. They are really hardworking people and are proud" and I was like "u got that right". Grin. Am proud of being an African but extremely proud of being an Igbo.  Grin

@topic : why are we proud?

ok, well, the opposite of being proud is being ashamed, and we Igbos do not like to be ashamed, which only leaves us to be proud. of course we're hella proud. IGBO STAND DA FXCK UP!!!

Putting in my 2 cents, Well i am African American,, and i am proud, i am also BlackFoot Indian, and just of touch of Irish ( due to the history of slavery in the US) i am married to an Igbo, so i am also proud to be Igbo. It really does not make a difference what label i put on myself,,, i am just proud to be "ME",,, as we all should be.  As the late James Brown use to say "Say it loud, I'm Black and I'm Proud"  Much love my brothers and sisters
