Thanks everyone for your numerous contributions. I went to the Police at Panti to report the case. They investigated and do you know what they told me - there was no concrete evidence. So he has been release already. Before going to the Police I had already submitted a report to Efcc but they told me it would take a while before the case would be treated. I don't know what to do but to post the Accountant's name here. His name is Olugbenga Dare. his picture is below . He is cursed already. Whatever he uses the money to do will not work out.

To amaikama and the rest of you who dismiss 15 million naira as a small sum, you need to modify your statement. What's small to you may be large to others. Obviously, it is a significant sum to Utibem and more than 90% of people in this world, and that's why he cried out for help on this forum. He runs his own business and does not depend on weekly or monthly pay like you probably do. But he's saying here that someone has stolen his hard earned money (could be part of his capital or profit). Utibem most probably has other people in his payroll who may be negatively affected by this development. Everyone deserves the right to fight for justice when wronged. If you cannot help the man, why not keep mum and ignore the thread?

It's statements like yours that encourage politicians and other people that find themselves in control of government or corporate funds to steal "big money". That's why some people consider a state governor or minister etc that has not stolen 1 billion naira to be a "poor man"!

Let's learn to appreciate the fact that stealing is stealing, whether small sum or big sum.

Is this fraud story really true? If yes, I don't really expect it on this forum.
15 million is no small amount, it is approximately 110000 USD, even if Bill Gates lost that to some petty thief he going to pursue it to the highest level.

Tuyota! u seem to get it all wrong. if we are to stop corruption or stealing, u think we can start it from the people on the street or the armed robbers? No!! this thing has to be from the very top. had it been the people we elect are God fearing and take every citizen by heart, an accountant would not be thinking of stealing 1 million Naira not to mention 15 million. we are coping what they do daily.

when an attorney General of the federation is killed without any government agency doing some thing about it and the president, after leaving office said,"the attorny general was killed by a drug baron,' and the family of the drug baron cry fowl play'. still nobody is doing something about it. is that the kind of government you think is transparent?

when a tree does not bear fruit, what do you do with the tree? would you cut all the branches or cut all the trees that are close to it, may be they competing with him for nutrient that why the tree could not bear fruit or cut the tree down?

If we want to stop any thing in Nigeria, most especially corruption and public looting should start form the top and they should be a strong law to that effect, a law that would not be broken by any privates and harry that is in power. if not so, my brother, me and you we go dey talk so tey we tire nothing go happen and them go dey loot they go.

just imagine what the police said, "there is no evidence to hold him." when does the Nigeria police use evidence against some body? A man helped another man that was short by armed robbers to the nearest police station to make a statement, they held the man that brought the wondered man that he could be one of the armed robbers. Then the wondered man was on conscious and when he regain his consciousness, he told the police that he want to see the man that saved his life. Guess what the police did. you guess are good as mine. And do you know that man who helped the wounded man was an okada man. Had it been the wondered man died what would be his story?

cheers.

I really do not see your point. This is a specific problem requiring a specific solution or suggestion, not lengthy pontifications on the ills of the society. Your statement is not helpful, and you have avoided responding to Tuyota's complaint. I think your comment

Having read most of the posts by contributors to this thread i could not but feel sorry for Nigerians. Some people took the matter as one big joke, while those that felt they have good advices gave theirs. All put together, my own view is that this forum is probably not the right place to bring this kind of topic. The reason being that there are a lot of different characters here in Nairaland. One can be tempted to forgive those that made jokes about the thread, but not those who in an attempt to give "good" advice ended up in exposing their set minds. If EFCC or Police can not help him maybe some of you will recommend the poster to go to Sango priests to send thunder to strike and kill the culprit then the money is lost. Many of you have never had any direct contact with neither Police nor EFCC, but tell us differnet 3rd hand stories about one encounter or the other. If you do not encourage him to go to the Police or EFCC, then you are indirectly asking him to forget the money, and i hope that is not the essence of bringing the thread to the forum.

I still do not know how to separate the Pastor from the church in Nigeria except maybe we are talking about the old churches like Anglican, Baptist, Catholic, Methodist etc; but if you pay your tithe to all these 'i feel alright' pentecostal churches, men you are inadvertently contributing to the better life of the almighty pastor and his family, QED

When God created Nigerians, He did not make mistake at all.

NIGERIAN will always be Nigerians.

In their thinking

In their actions and reaction to money. The Nigerian story about money is the same everywhere you go.

so my brother, you can see that only one person has a valid suggestion and the rest are just messing about, maybe including me. That is to say, I am a Nigerian as well.

Good luck in recovering your money. I guess there is a normal and proper place to take such a case to.

@ postor,

I feel sorry for your story and how your accountant absconded with a 15 million naira. i will make some suggestion for you to work on and see where it leads.

Before i proceed, i must state that the problem of the company is "porous and ineffective internal control system". From your story, i could only deduce that your internal control is not sound enough to prevent a fraud of that magnitude. We must educate ourselves that internal control is as important to a business as the business itself. An effective control would have prevented a material fraud of this substance, i therefore recommend that you overhaul your control system and implement a more effective one. If you desire an effective control system to safeguard your assets, you may contact Tunde Owoeye at 08055628489 or rbo.partners@gmail.com

Back to how to track your "accountant". I suggest that you contact a forensic accountant to assist investigate the exact amount of the fraud and all accomplices involved in the fraud. He\she will assist to generate all relevant documents to institute civil case against him in a competent court. i suggest a civil case because you stand a chance to recover your money from him and/or his guarantor(s).

If the accountant is a member of any recognised professional body like ICAN, ACCA, ANAN, CISA among others, i suggest that you report him to his professional body for appropriate action. in this he stands the risk to lose his professional certificate and possibly return your loot. in addition, he may be prosecuted in a competent court of law for breach of trust, theft, and/or fraud in addition to bringing the name of the institute to disrepute.

You do not have power to prosecute, so you can report him to the EFCC or the Police. The EFCC may be more reliable in the respect (without disrepecting the police). but i think both bodies may be concerned in his imprisonment than the recovery of your money. Going through the EFCC Act, the maxuimum years he could spend in jail is 5 (five). so the accountant may decide to go to jail. Though the EFCC could go further to have his assets confiscated, auctioned and refunded to you, its not guaranteed.

I can give you some professional assstance in the capacity of a forensic accountant, if you desire my service.
