How To Make A Solar Power Generator For Less Than $300
« on: January 27, 2006, 12:58 AM »

Do you have 300 smackeroos?

That's how much it takes for a DIY solar power generator.

Here's another reference:

$600 gets your house on solar power

With these prices, why would your house ever go dark again?

NEPA, eat your heart out.

You can't power much with this kind of system.
For your to run it both day and night you would require more batteries and panels and the price rises appreciably.
Depending on the number of hours you want it to last also, you should be ready to spend more.

yes its worth the try, at least it would demonstrate to quite a lot of people that the technology works, which would lead to increase in demand, improvement in technology and lower costs.

It baffles me why there isn't electricity supply from solar energy already. We have sun! We have wind! Why do we stick to water, I mean the company I worked for once - Eon - they generate electricity from anything possible. We waste all that sun and heat, its annoying. A company needs to step in, knowing Eon and their goal to be the worlds largest energy supplier coupled with the privatisation of NEPA, it probably wouldn't be long, or so I'd like tohope hope.

i just hope your company is different because most solar companies in Nigeria are jokers. i once contacted one just to backup my pc he said 800000 does that make any sense ? Solar isn't this expensive in china or maybe they've been bribed by Nepa

we are qualified solar energy experts, we got certificates for this business. Most people in solar energy business in Nigeria are not well trained. some of them go to 2 weeks course on it, which is not enough. but we passed through the 4 corners of the university to get our certificates, please.
We give the best. Try us.
see the sample of charge controller we sell.

Understanding how solar works is more important that paying for it.

If you do not get a good charge controller with load divert you will simply fry your battery bank in no time if you are producing more than you are consuming.

Everyone claims to be an expert in Nigeria and that is the major problem.

I laughed at the phrase "producing more than you are consuming".  There's no such possibility in Nigeria! Cheesy

It is possible to produce solar charge controller in Nigeria.
The only thing we can not produce in Nigeria for now is PV Cells.
But I believe very soon we start that.

Better restrict yourself to what you understand. Ask people to educate you on what you don't know so you don't ridicule yourself in public.

Oga Ashdam,

its obvious you need a website. Its not enough to want to send mails to those who signify interest.

Also, we like know in plain terms, how much will it take to setup solar power generator of say 1kv, 2.5kv, etc.
Its the easiest way to influence our buying decision.

Thanx a lot.

While I agree that solar generator is the best considering all its advantages, the only problem is cost. Take for example EAUXWELL in Lagos sell solar panel for 800Naira per watt. So u need 1000 watt means 800,000 naira! That is only for panel excluding solar controller, battery bank, inverter/charger. Ideally hybrid system is the best. That use solar along with PHCN/Generator and increase your battery bank and solar panel as you get money.

It is only liars in the business that tell you that solar is cheap. Even in US it is subsidized. Try Google to check solar panel prices even in China. For those who want cheap source of solar panels try www.alibaba.com there you will find manufacturers.

I had my B Eng in Electrical Engineering since 1995 and that is no criteria for solar knowledge.  I have colleague in solar profession with lot of experience but school certificate. Going for solar training like the show cased recently is a waste when you can read manuals on new solar panels and solar controllers. All you probably need is here   http://www.mrsolar.com/page/msos/sizingindustrial
