How To Manage And Modify Smf
« on: January 30, 2006, 06:51 PM »

I was wondering of starting this thread here in nairaland forum rather to SMF.  PHP gurus, this is where you will have to show your talent and experience.  We all know what is SMF, it is an open source community that provided the original source code for software nairaland is using today to host humble Nigeria community.

Now, I was wondering if we could have the opportunity to discuss the source code, think of ways of modifying the original source code and how best to use it in coperate organization as addition or integration to CMS (Content Management System).

These are links on how SMF has been modified beyond recognition

All you need do is search for a suitable template and modify it a little bit to suit your organization.  However, I think the Nairaland Forum is able to accomodate a very broad range of discussions, and you might not really need to start your own forum! Wink

How can we add adsense to SMF, both adsense content and search, to appear on the index.php and display.template.php.   Cool

That one is very easy.  Just echo the adsense code into your template!

@seun, thanks for the information.  I am not thinking of starting a public forum,  I am thinking more of the importance it would have in corporate organistion and contributions it will offer the organizationn in terms of feedback from their customers.

Look at how the webmasters of these sites has integrated SMF into their site.

1. Joomlahacks
2. Church Ministries Online
3. Un4seen

I hope this thread would grow exponentially.  We need to tear down SMF, script by script to understand how the basic PHP engineering was coupled and if possible produce our very own nairaland themes.  Besides, I am still learning how the scripts fits together and hopefully understand the basic underlying program and modify it to suit my/our needs.

You will just have to take your time and read through to understand it o.  I have spend many months studying it and while I don't necessarily understand every aspect of it I know that I can usually modify the software to suit my purposes.

Seun, your reply is good enough for people who understand what echo means. This forum is for both professional and newbies. I dont have problem adding the code to my forum,  I raised the issue so that others will be able to learn.
So come down to the level of a beginner.

Next time why don't you simply share your knowledge with us instead of asking a question when you already know the answer and wasting the time of those trying to answer you?
