how do u want to go about it,do u want to rent an apartment to start it or you want to buy a whole building or better still you may want to buy a land and start from scrash.

that is the first thing to start with, don't forget the location you'll like it to be when planning on the building choices.

if you are buying a building in lagos today, you'll have something close t 20M,at least suitable to start in a remote locations

you can consider buying a land and start building it little by little, you'll prepare to spend like 30m,these would be a little more suitable because you'll have to follow your plan in errecting the building. You must be a rich person to complete this project because schools nowadays are mega project if you really want to do the business

Business is not guaranteed to succeed.  You have to start small and then expand from there.
You have to focus on what you know you can do and do it to the best of your ability, otherwise you could fail.
If you have 50 million naira, I guess you could dream of a primary and secondary school, but you might still fail.

If you want to start an eatery, focus on it.  Mr. Biggs is an eatery.  They are making millions from that alone.
If you want to start a school because you love children, then start with daycare.  In time, you might have a school.
But I want to encourage young people to think outside the box.  Look for a business that is not yet mature.

that's very true,
i agree with seun,
you will have stiff competition
especially now that there a thousand and one school out there

if u wish to join them, you will have to spend a lot of money especially if you want to stand out.

i belive that what one can do like Seun said is to start something that is yet to be exploited, before the 'copy cats' come. you would have moved on,

There is competition in most businesses anyway. The fact that many people already own schools does not necessarily mean you cannot succeed. You must however have a unique selling point that will differentiate you from others.

leave the eatry out of it because the way our PHCN is ruinning our elextrixity now is poor and doesnt not encourage the setting up of that biz.I know one at opebi that closed up of because of epileptic power supply, they spend most of their gains in buying diesel and oil. As for the school,if you plan it well, you can make it because, there are some places that you can place it and it would sell, all you need is better presentation of the biz.if it is well equiped, people wouyld patrinize it especially if you make it a nanny like school.parents nowadays doesnt have time to takecare of young ones.

I think you should start with a specialist school where they teach kids/adults computer skills or languages only. whatever you do make sure you have a limit on students at any particular time

why do u want to have a school in the first place apart from the profit, are you a teacher or do you have a experience in education/PGCE?

This is an important topic that we must not toy away with. Many out there are also waiting to read expert opinion on this issue. However, in my case I have a modern building which I bought on auction from a bank in Lagos. It is a twin duplex. My wife is a trained teacher. She wanted to run a creche - daycare - playgroup for ages 0 to 3yrs but did not know how to go about it. My questions are:
1.   What else do one need for effective take off
2.   What are the suggested equipment required
3.    Caliber and number of staff
4.   Estimated cost apart from bulding
5.  Location of any standard day care/playgroup in Lagos that one can visit for experience sake

School business to me should not be a money making venture. It should be for impactation of knowledge and building a new society. The present day Nigeria need a total different set of people  in her helms of affairs etc. If you see it this way, you will start small in areas not well known and with rewards. I thinking of starting one in the nearest future.

Why not? If you don't make money, how will you grow the school? If you don't make money, how will you pay your teachers? Money is very good, I must tell you. When you're making money, hard work comes naturally. Wink
