You could start an online forum like seun and makes lots of money as well. It should not cost u more than 20,000naira. Blueberrydomain will give u a forum program free along with hosting and domain (1GB),
Then u work @ driving traffic and creatin awareness. Once u have considerable traffic (say at least 1000 unique visitors daily). You can embed google adsense and make lots of money.
If u could take it a step further by gettin 2million page views on your site monthly(not easy though). You'll make a minimum of 2000$ monthly with google via cpm ads.

Yes, and while you're at it, why don't you build your own search engine like Google so you can make 100 million dollars a year?  Or write an operating system and desktop suite like Microsoft!  Yay, it's so easy!

Is this the right advise for a newbie? I doubt it man.

The best thing is for him to learn first, then put what he has learnt into action!

Do you know his technical background?

yemupz, there are several means of making money online. Just go to google and search for "Making a living online" or visit http://www.google.com/search?sourceid=navclient&ie=UTF-8&rls=GGLG,GGLG:2005-33,GGLG:en&q=Making+a+living+online and see the result.

In case you are interested the more, just send me a PM and I will send you some materials to study. If you can study, you can make a living online.

What about having a blog hosting service (like Blogger/Xanga) exclusively for Nigerians. Then ads can be displayed on all the blogs. Guys, is this feasible?

I think a Nairaland member named Kazey is already doing that. He owns www.nigerianbloggers.com hosted on his site www.naijahost.com

Layi, that's not what I'm saying. Kazey's own is a blog aggregator. I'm talking of actually hosting Nigerian bloggers' blogs. For example, say Yemupz has a site www.naijablog.com, then he promotes it among Nigerians to get their blogs free and I have my blog at www.naijablog.com/IAH and you have yours at www.naijablog.com/layi. Then Yemupz as the owner displays ads on all our blogs. Gerrit? Undecided

Maybe I got Kazey wrong but he once told me he makes money  by displaying google adsense on a lot of blogs he hosted.

Anyway , its very feasible. Its more like what Freeservers / Geocities does. Its better u have your own server for such a service with a well programmed php/bloggin software. It'll cheaper than renting up to 200GB of webspace. Moreso now that the blogging culture is gainin acceptance amongst Nigerian youths (except for the fact that a large % of 9-ja bloggers reside outside the country). Those in the country are still hampered by limited internet access. If we are talking about hosting thousands of blogs, then u got lot of awareness campaign to do. Its a nice idea anyway.

ask seun, the cost of hosting a site with real traffic is killing. i once got him on my host who asked for around $800 a month!

u can make it online if u can develop a real unik product/service. technorati, del.icio.us, etc. these are great ideas

Ok. to make things easy, why don't you become a webhost reseller.
You buy reseller accounts from webhost company. Get a simple website highlighting your services. You r not just a reseller. You have actually become a webhost.Webhost company wey nor get website is bad for business.

You can buy a 35GB (windows) reseller account @ http://www.gisol.com/hosting/index-nt.php for $110 and host up to 7000 websites of 5MB each (unlimited domain hosting). You can charge a paltry 1000naira / yr for 5MB space

Host account- N15,400 (N45,000 value) You get a free domain name for your site when u sign up for the account.
Host 7000 domains- N7,000,000

Its not easy hosting 7000 clients (a client can host multiple domains though) but at 1000N /yr (5MB) and wit effective advertising campaign, they should come rushing. However u need to add marketing/advertising cost. Thats up to you.

Why don't you be creative like VistaPrint? Make party cards, club cards, wedding card, complementary card etc. just by the click of a button.  Use paypal or other less online payment processor to collect your money.

I have a website, http://www.jigventures.biz
(currently undergoing reconstruction) that was
launched in 2004.

I have an Internet club called the JIG Ventures
Affiliate Club (J-VAC).

Members of this online club register with the sum of
=N=900 and pay a monthly subscription of =N=750. They
are then exposed to use all my materials that I
normally sell, FREE.

They are also exposed to the latest money-making
online ventures, and are given expert consultancy and
advice (also FREE) by me and my team of resource
persons, on how to go about them.

There are so many online businesses that can give you
Naira and Dollars on a steady basis. And this is all
legitimate too (not the Yahoo-Yahoo nonsense).

Here are some Internet businesses that work here in Nigeria

1) Reseller web hosting (I can actually show you how you can become one without paying a dime in registration)
2) Online payments (such as I run on www.epaypanel.com)
3) Saler of Information products: Info products are the hottest selling item on the Internet, and I cannot tell you how much I have made from this.
4) Setting up a subscription site (e.g dating websites, etc)
5) Promoting affiliate programmes
6) E-training seminars

There are many others, including dollar-paying businesses I will not mention here.

I will urge you to register in this club, and get the best headstart you can ever get.

SInce I am a forum member, you are sure you are in safe hands.

I think Creativity is the key, Rome wasn't built in a day. if you know where to get stuff for really cheap 9 That shouldn't be a problem in Naija) then you can just re-sell stuff on http://whogobuy.com (Nigerian Ebay) You can start by buying something like an information pack or something that you can just send by e-mail, for example, information packs on how to make money would generate lots of interest (especially in Nigeria) There are loads of them on ebay.co.uk and most of them come with a resellers license. Just retail these on the Nigerian website for really small amounts, I don't  know if paypal operates in Nigeria but Paypal would be an ideal way to collect money, If you sell at $10.00 each, and 15 peoplebuy a day, that would just be $150.00 in your account for just e-mailing people.

But you need to get a very good pack, They come on PDF formats, as ebooks. One that was written , carefully, tested and trusted. Hec, you could even decide to drop that and follow the writers strategy and make your own money,

Hope this makes sense
