i use an automatic tranmission and i think i like it.depending on which part of the country you want to use the car also, like Lagos were there is lot of hold up the Automatic transmission will be better for you.its also east to drive. to me it does not have any disadvantage except that if you start with Auto to drive it might be a little difficult to use a manual later on but you can still use it later on.

AT is for lazy people. MT shows the kind of driver you are, traffic or freeway. so i guess you know my answer already. remember, you cannot jmp-start an AT. if you have a run-down battery or slow-run issue, there's no Gear 2 to help you start while in motion.

honestly speaking,i prefer the manual transmission.because of the way it's designed, you are pretty much in control of the car.automatic transmission vehicles are okay to drive and are good for those who are learning to drive for the first time.here in the US.,a lot of people, some africans included complain that manual transmission involves a "lot of work" to drive!!! i guess constantly changing gears would be considered "a lot of work"!!! that's why i believe manual transmission sets you apart from the crowd who don't want to be bothered with the "hard work" involved in driving manual transmission.also with manual transmission, you can tell who's an experienced driver and who is'nt.most people choose automatic because there's little guesswork involved.just push the gear stick down to "D" and you are good to go!! a little child can easily do that, that's why it cannot be compared in any way with manual transmission driving.

Those(smart and intellint people) who invented auto(after manual)obviously had good reasons and people think they prefer manual because of jumpstart and all but its all too myopic. To start with, the aging population probably would say AT because its easier and perhaps their hands have gone pale with MT.And about learnin both, its wise to learn with Mt first just so u aviod embarrasment. That leaves me on the fence rite?, NO. I'll go wid AT. Theres no point in proving your vigour by driving MT and forcin advantages which r way down the line and pessimistic 4 that matter. I rest my case with AT.

Manual is just the bomb with you having more control but in a crazy city like lagos where it is possible to spend 4 hours of bumper to bumper driving i just might go for an auto drive vehicle. Anywhere else, gimme that manual V6 or V8

have you noticed in most movies where it's about cars and driving skills, MT's what's used. Fast and Furious, Ronin, James Bond series, just to mention a few. whether Lagos or New York, MT Rocks! MT Rules! IBB

Well, I'm speaking from a purely mechanical viewpoint,
I'm a self employed auto engineer by trade, specialising in VW and Audi.
Auto boxes are ok, manual boxes are better.
In the last 5 years, I've had a fair amount of auto box failures, including other car makes, and if the car's old enough, the cost of repairs often writes the car off. Auto boxes work well, if you tend to drive in areas of dense traffic.
Brake pads, front wheel bearings wear out a lot quicker in auto transmission cars. Also, on a very hot day, stuck in traffic, or in very slow moving traffic, cars with auto transmission are most likely to overheat, they are also quite thirsty, as far as fuel consumption goes.

Yes Automatic tranny guzzles more fuel, yes it wears the brake pads quickly. Just imagine yourself commuting in the heavy Lagos traffic to VI and back. You need some relief from all the clutching down and shifting. This is a trick I do: When driving an auto tranny, shift back to neutral when you come to a stop in traffic. Make this a habit and you will notice the difference. Always keep your eyes on the tachometer so you know how your car is idling.
