Putting A Stop to Building Collapse in Lagos
« on: June 17, 2007, 11:42 AM »

What can be done to avert this recurring problems of building collapsing in Nigeria especially in Lagos state. Me think this needs serious attention because the lives of lots of people is at stake from greedy landlords and shady contractors. Lack of maintenance culture and i too know (ITK) mentality of the local contractors as well. Please what can be done?

Those who construct buildings with inferior materials should be made to pay for the resulting deaths.  That's all.

I feel every building contractor should be duly registered and operate under a common code, then they can be held liable and can easily be punished or suspended etc

Negligence on the part of the government,
Carelessness on the part of the owners of building,
Greed on the part of the contractor,
These are some of the reasons for building collapse in Nigeria.

We don't need any new regulations.  If a substandard building collapses, charge the contractor to court.  Simple!
