The Possibility Seems Real But Don't Drop Your Guy Just Yet
« on: July 01, 2007, 08:11 AM »

I normally don’t spend a great deal of time thinking about my sperm.

But recently a team of scientists announced they had made artificial sperm from human bone marrow, and media reports abounded with the dire news that my goodfellas (and by extension, me) had been rendered unnecessary.

If a woman chose to do so, speculated tabloid journalists, she could make sperm from her own bone marrow, fertilize another woman’s egg — and voila!

They used to tell me that the world was coming to an end, i didnt believe but i am rethinking now.  Embarrassed

I hardly think women would start flocking to dump their men because artificial sperm is available. You forget that most women want to find a loving relationship and only turn to adoption and artificial sperm banks when that's not really an option or the husband is infertile, etc. I see this being a big breakthrough yes, maybe for women who wanted to have more children (or had no children) with a husband that died. Or women who are afraid that they might never have their own biological kids because they have not gotten married yet and still want the chance. Sperm banks exist out there right now, but has that completely changed the way that our society operates? We still have the same socially constructed norms . . . with just a few outliers now.

So men, rest assured that you're women will most likely NOT abandon you. They are still going to prefer to raise their children in a two parent household.
