Your passport will come in handyif you do plan to visit Nigeria before it expires. Unless you plan on getting a Visa.
I have always had a Nigerian passport. I visit Nigeria often to keep renewing or getting a new one. Yes, I agree that besides at Murtala Muhammed, it's pretty much of no use. The only time I take mine out is at MM airport. But, I'd rather have it than have to get a visa on my Yankee or British passports. I take all of them with me when I am travelling home and depending on where I am show the appropriate one. You know there are no direct flights from here, so we have to fly through Europe. I show yankee passport at O'Hare, the British one in Europe, and the green one in Lagos.
My advice: Just hold on to the passport. You just never know,

@Akolawole Original Americans knows themselves, but "being what you are is the best".
Go and ask John Fashanu: British/Nigeria Linford Christie : British/Jamaica
Even our own Harry Akande will have story to tell you. @Kokscity You better keep your nija pali o, ive got 6 of those palis, different different ones, but no matter how hard Nigeria is, im true 24/7. Honestly, i feel more proud to answer "I'm a Nigerian" than to answer as an "African American". no offence y'all

Those that destroy there homes just because of the treasures they found outside will eventually sleep at the corridor when the pressures outside drive them back home. Think twice, Its good to be a good American but its great to be a patriotic Nigerian. Even though my other pali gives me opportunities NOW, I am a proud Nigerian and I will never forget home. HOME SWEET HOME. My Nigeria!!!

Yep! You've got to hold on to that green passport. Funny enough, I sent my passport to the consulate in Atlanta for re-issue. It's already 10 years old, so I need a new one. Since, it's been about 4 weeks since I sent it, I called last Thursday to see why it's taking so long to get the new passport. This is something that's supposed to take 5 working days. Well, the passport officer at the other end said the "passport machine" is broken and he has no idea when it will be fixed. I'm like, what? You must be joking, well, he was not. I asked if he can send my passport and money back, so that I can try one of the other consulates. But, he said they have already cashed the money.
So, here I am planning on taking a trip home in Sept and not knowing if I will have my passport back then. Hopefully, they will come through. I just can't believe the kind of these people are providing!

nna men burn the thingy,,,,,,I just got back from Naija and had the worst experience. First it seems like every "professional" Nigerian I met wanted to show me how much they hated my being in the US. O.k so ten days after I got to Nigeria last month, I was two cars away from getting robbed at gun point on my way back from Abuja if we didnt have a mobile police escort. Along that Nsukka road, the only way we missed the robbers was because the mobile police escorts that came to get us from the airport started shooting before we got to the "operation" site, and the sound of a more superior gun i guess, chased the robbers away. SO let me get this. Frustrations the NIgerian government heap on its young citizens makes me leave the country at 18, I can't get around the place if I visit because I need an escort to avoid gettin robbed @ Enugu, You cannot walk into any "profesional" joint with getting stared down,,,,,,all these by your "fellow Nigerians". and am supposed to be proud "am Nigerian",,,,,,,Please give me a break. yeah I will pay the Visa fees ok, but just let them approve my US passport this fall and see what will happen to the Nigerian passport. I will take it to the embassy in washington, stuff it into the hands of one of the clerks who will probably also give u and attitude and just fly away to NEW YORK. No thanks am proud of my African roots and culture because it has helped shaped my life and abilities, but I don't think that at this moment I will confidently say that I am proud to be Nigerian. Until I can go back to Nigeria and get a smile back from "customer service" guy or walk to a suya joint without having to take a look over my shoulder. If I cannot visit my friend in the north because of sharia, nor take a walk in lagos because u will get snatched off the street, nor drive to Enugu because people will take from u what u got by your own sweat, what is there to be proud of in being Nigerian
MY BROTHER BURN THE THING OR PUT IT IN UR ARCHIVES OF HISTORY.
and I agree with u,,,,,I will rather live free

@Topic, In the end its a personal choice, to keep it or not. Mine, i keep it, even though its been expired for ages (too lazy to go to the embassy, besides they piss me off there ) and when am really in the mood to put myself through hell, i'll go to the embassy and renew it and again return it to its hiding place Never gon' through it away

you are an idiot for posting such rubbish. So because you just came in from the US, you are suddenly seeing armed robbers everywhere. You talk about people staring down at you, me I think you are pissed because they weren't looking at you with awe because u just came in from "Yankee". Look the myth of coming from abroad has been shattered because a lot of people visit these so-called "abroad" and see what our naija folks are doing there.
So dude, just stay away OK. Don't even call Nigeria again or speak to any Nigerian you meet anywhere. Ewuuu!!!!

Kokcity
Thank God for America, this is a very great country and I'm really grateful for the opportunity granted me. You are just like your name, I think they should have named you Jerkcity or Jerkbrain, there are many Nigerians that will make you look bad with their achievements (yet they are still proud to be from Nigeria), having dual citizenship has great advantages there are many people born and bread here in the States that wish they could have that passport as well. Don't come here showing off. You could have even presented it in a better polite way and let people rejoice with you, not coming bashing naija. You probably will be one of those people that will one day be hiding for shame that time after God will raise Naija from her predicaments. You can do whatever you want with it nobody give a, ,
I'm American and Nigerian, grateful to God for this great country I love America, Nigeria, and Israel and I will do anything to defend those countries any time. So get off your high horse and honor the breast that fed you. Naija might be going through her prooning period now, all other great countries in the world have gone through theirs in the past and look at where they are now, Naija will soon be too just a matter of time, and just as precious as Blue Eagles wings is so shall Green Eagles wings be. God bless America. God bless Nigeria, and God bless Israel.

I agree with omogenikky. kokscity, let me tell you what Naija promises to do for you & you can be sure of it. Naiji promises to:- 1) Give the people of this country a touch time in what ever they do. 2) Create confusion, so the people do know when their leaders are stealing moni. 3) Make you believe other Countries are better than Her. 4) (Well in Lagos) Never find solution to the Traffic Jams (GO-SLOW). 5) Tell you straight to your face how moni has no value. 6) Impose Leaders on you whenever you vote. 7) Remind you Never To Expect Power Always. Always win the Happiest people in the world award, and 9) Remind you there is no place like HOME. Home is where the heart is, that's what they say. Our Leaders might make us hate her, support policies that benefit only the powerful, make us wish we were from another country but the truth is, with all these troubles we face here, we can't help but love Her (Nigeria). But you know what? How you go no say na Naiji you belong to, if the things wey dey happen to you when you carry that passport no happen. Fear no go catch you.

Green Passport Reality TV series is the ground breaking story of living in the United States from the perspective of Nigerians. Its two simple and clear goals are:
1. To correct the negative media that Nigerians have received in recent times. We are making a bold statement that there is more to Nigerians than 419, email scams and other forms of corruption.
2. To address some of the misconceptions of our fellow Nigerians at home that life abroad is a bed of roses and the streets are paved with Gold. This land indeed has opportunity however it is not a shortcut or guarantee of success.
