You make a pretty good point, though I can't say that I definitely agree. Americans do tend to say their ancestry, and aside from some Italians and Irish that still have a bunch of native traditions in terms of food and sometimes a little farther than food, it is pretty clear that they are white Americans - they have been consumed by white America and now have views that reflect those of white Americans. That is true.

Now of course there are African Americans in America. I don't think the same standard can be applied here since AAs aren't supposed to reflect the culture of any one country but instead decend from West Africa in its entirety. Also, African Americans created black America, partially using things they already knew from Africa and from the African heritage, they didn't join black America as white ethnicities do. There is a difference between a culture that you create and a culture that you join. Of course, I must throw in that white America has influenced black American culture in some respects but it is still its own culture.

Now here is where it gets real interesting. There are Africans that tell me that I am American and that there is no connection between me and Africa, or not much of one. I don't agree with this, but let's just use this premise. Now bring in first generation Nigerians. They are as Americanized as I am, without a doubt, if not more Americanized in many respects - they chow down fast food (I don't) and say "we" when speaking of the United States (I have never been able to say "we won the cold war", for example - it doesn't feel right). And these are people who are the first in their family to be born on American soil. So, ow11, if I am Americanized, being in the 6th generation of Americans out of slavery and probably the 8th, 9th, tenth, and eleventh (depending of whose family tree your looking at) in America, then so are first generation Africans. Does Americanization just consume everyone in their first generation in America?

I say NO, but I am just playing devils advocate here and trying to show the other point of view. If you want my point of view, ask me.

In short, I believe that white Americans are Americanized quickly and take on the dominant view of whites but that non-whites (Africans, Asians, Indians, etc) retain a lot of their native traditions - even, amazingly, black Americans.





As for responding to the original topic. Isn't it ironic that someone is asking if racism will be gone when Christ comes, but that if it were not for racism, they wouldn't even BELIEVE that Christ iwas coming? If you want to get rid of racism you have to first drop the type of spirituality that racist whites and Arabs have taught you! Am I wrong?
