@ nike, too bad u live far from me, i could have done everything u want for u for free. i do my hair myself - perming, cornrows, and weave on........for real!

@ viro --- I don't work and im a college student too. And seriously, it's not waste of money. It's taking care of one's self. My dad paid for it. well i do everything though it's been long since i permed my hair because i do jerry coils now. i re-do it like every 4 months. i love it. u can style it any way u want. i like braids too but i don't have d patience 4 it .
i didn't know salons charge that much. well they not gon be stealing my money 4 another 5years so it's all good!!!!

If you are just washing and setting... it's like $35. But if u doing the whole treating esp cutting.. (which is $10 extra). Then u get to pay more.
Between when my hair was long, i used to do it myself.

wow, I'm looking at some of the prices and they're really outrageous.In Brooklyn a wash and set is 10,full headed perm is like 30, hair cuts are $45 and up, the braidings are more expensive.To braid your hair is like 80 and up, unless you go somewhere like harlem, where they have those senegalese people saying"aunty, want to do your hair?"then they'll charge you like $40. Well maybe it's because on like one block around my area, you have like 5-6 salons

To me it is a matter of rocking your perm or natural hair correctly. Whatever hairstyle best personifies that woman would eqally make her sexy. I have been natural for some time and also wore locks. Now I am keeping my natural hair in braids until I can find something sophisticated to do with it. Any suggestions? By the way here is a website with a lot of natural hair styles. Just to say kudos to the "napptural" girls, I think it takes a fair bit of confidence to so "natural" similar to carrying a very low cut. Some people are under the impression that natural hair means unkempt, this is soo not true. Honeybird, I use that site - nappturality often and its full of ideas for the naptural girl:) I only braid my hair in the winter, other than that I love to rock my fro.  eta:I think someone made a coment about hygenie? The weaves itch like mad after about a week, even with washing, you can't get under the tracks so how can that be more hygenic? |

I agree with the two ladies about the informative website, nappturality.com. After reading through the website for months, I finally got the courage to cut off all my hair and start fresh, perm free. I had a short afro in Dec 2004 and now when I straighten my hair, it's halfway down my back. My hair NEVER grew like that when I had a perm.
