The WA.ZO.BIA (Unity) Thread
« on: July 09, 2007, 07:49 PM »

Various tribes have their different threads on here. This thread is dedicated to our unity in diversity. Please try to stifle your tribalistic thoughts or prejudices here. Coming from a single country, we have a lot in common and numerous things/experiences to celebrate (as well as complain about) without turning on one another.

I'll go first. I am Yoruba (well kind of), I have stayed in different parts of Nigeria and have loads of mates from around the country. When I am hanging out with my mates (even here in the UK), I don't think. . . oh, this one is Hausa or this one is Bini or this one is a Scouser or this one is Glaswegian. What matters to me are your values, your personality and that you are a good mate.

I hope a lack of tribal discrimination would reign here too.

Well SMC its a pity threads like this don't generate much interest on tribalist-infested nairaland.

You'd have titled the thread 'i hate all igbos/yorubas' and boy would this place be flooded?

Pity

I know Sad

I did hope that people would be willing to ditch their prejudice and get along, but I guess that is a tall order/ambition.

Hi I'm Richard Black, and very mixed -  Igbo, Urhobo, Hausa/Fulani, Yoruba, Bini, Efik and Idoma. Please don't ask me how, it's a long story. I live in Ajegunle, Lagos, Nigeria and south side of Chicago IL, USA.

Yep, there are too many ethnocentric bigots on Nairaland. Nigerians need to be united.

am yoruba, OMO EKITI, i got no qualms with any tribe. if a person  act up, i find fault in that personnot the tribe. tribe has nothing to to with how you personally present yourself. . . it just classify you base on your traditions, language, culture, and ethnicities.

i love nigeria with its many different cultures. that's what makes the country  beeeeaaauuutifullllll!!! more beautiful, if the Govt. actually start doing their jobs

I'm not holding grudge against Mr Awolowo, he didn't inflict any of his murderous behaviour on me nor my tribesmen, am only answering your question 'Who Awolowo was', and i know him as the one who Initiated, supervised and make sure that little Ibo children were starved to death.
