Home sweethome. Struggle abroad for a few years and return to naija to contribute your quota. Live for too long abroad and you get sucked in to the system. Remember guys in naija are not sleeping. You would be amazed at the grounds they have covered if you visit home.

I am not considering moving back home soon. Had some unpleasant experiences in Lagos. A guy sitting on the back sit of an okada with rider/accomplice shot a corporate guy point blank on his leg at Falomo roundabout ikoyi around 1.30pm on a week day, dragged his envelope or whatever and rode on to Bourdillon without resistance! The guy probably just left a bank. Car windshields and windows smashed on Osborne road ikoyi in traffic jam around 8pm right in front of me by guys who were hiding in the median and coming out periodically to attack (narrowly missed my windows being smashed). Absence of light, traffic bottlenecks, noise (from generators, vehicles, music and people), menace of area boys, complete lack of customer service in most service organisations, Water board asking me to pay 2500/month for water when I buy water for use twice a week, gross indiscipline, complete lack of regard for human life, mechanics reaping car owners, fuel attendants serving u fuel even before u get to your fuel tank (without wiping the meter after just serving someone else). The only good thing I can remember is the installation of prepaid PHCN meter, so I paid only for light consumed. Even at that, the installation process was a sham and topping up the card is like hell. DSTV is yet to recognise that customers are kings as they are still virtually a monopoly. They give us whatever channel they deem fit in Nigeria. Ever wondered why we don't get Travel Channel in Nigeria? Simple, Nigerians are not tourists! I can go on and on about the issues as they are still fresh in my mind. Not saying that there are no crime/murder or other issues here in the UK or elsewhere in the western countries, but you can get help in times of distress and such cases are usually exhaustively investigated and perpetrators brought to book! I quite agree that things are improving but only if we had leaders in the likes of El-Rufai, Ezekwesili, Akunyili, Ribadu and Okonjo-iweala in charge of most states/ministries will I be convinced that we can turn around in a few years. Maybe this new Government can work wonders. The previous govt in lagos tried to remedy a lot of things like road maintenance and traffic and tried in that regard. Guys are making a lot of bucks in Shares and investing in real estates, and all the various high profit/quick return investments schemes and that is what is keeping their spirits high at the moment. What will happen when the stock market matures like in Europe/America? Mobile communication has really helped in employing people (have u recently visited the Computer/Phone village in Ikeja? d place is like a beeeeeeeeehive of activities). I think my mind is at cool rest here and no malaria fever anymore so my GP would not have me visiting in a long while . 999 emergency call is available (but acknowledge that time wasters are not required here - only emergencies please!) and light is constant. Wish those of u considering going back home soon very very very good luck and kindly go to the various embassies and exchange your previous place (if possible) with those wishing to check out, They are very many. One guy was even advertising a Nigerian passport with Chinese visa for sale in Nairaland. Can you imagine?

Nigeria is home for me. I miss the tranquility, the bustling activities of my homeland, the rapport, even amongst strangers, the lights out, where I would stay outside listening to folktalkes. I miss eating suya, playing with my siblings, watching Television, playing with my friends outside, and sneaking back in, minutes before my parents returned from work. Perhaps, I am living in the past, but I am aware of the changing environment, but people are surviving back home. Nigeria is home for me!

nice writeup The fear of the unknown is the reason why a lot of guys are not coming back homes. you cannot leave a organised society like the uk and come back into a this-working society. the govt have to do a lot in providing basic infracusture for the people.we need leaders who are really dedicated to the well being of his people but what we have now are leaders who have selfish interest alone. :

HUnnnnnnnnnn come back home to live? yeh sure when i am about 70 may be.
Last Xmas i was in Nigeria i could not wait to come back, God! nothing works in my dear country, the way motorists and pedestrians move side by side scared me, things are so expensive, no courtesy anywhere, nobody cares about you, no security, the sight of poor people looking haggard and uncrared for, the sight of HEAVY GUNS on dirty looking police everywhere, poor state of hospitals, funny looking government school classrooms, kids looking dirty hawking just to survive, hunnnnnnnnnn
The rich getting richer and absence of middle class, joblessness, except for banking industries now employing people to roam everywhere looking for millions, God have mercy! holdups nko? no single planning, banks in residential areas with no security God saves pasersby when the 'big boys' visits, endless list, May God help dear country! The though of coming home is scary man!

Lol, I think we have to be careful about characterising the whole country according to the cities/states we visit. I find that very few Nigerians actually go and see the whole country. Most you will find stay in their home regions or birth cities. This is especially true of Lagosians. Sometimes when I hear people describe "Nigeria", I know they are really just talking about their experiences in Lagos/Port Harcourt/Aba, lol
If Lagos is too dirty and gra gra, then set your eyes on Calabar, Jos or Abuja. Its not fair on other places who have for years kept their cities clean, well kept and orderly.
There are some parts of Nigeria, that feel like being in a totally different country to other parts. Dont get me wrong, we all KNOW Nigeria has its problems, but when I hear people talk about crime in Nigeria when they live in some of the crime capitals of the world in the west, it just makes me laugh.
Chances are, most of us would live a better standard of living if we went back home, even if we were millionaires in the West, simply because the money stretches further. Having said that, Nigeria has a long way to go if it wants to attract people back into the country, by the time we get there, the Chinese, Germans and Arabs would have already made their billions from Nigeria's potential. Some would rather amass their thousands abroad.
I think there must a be a happy compromise somewhere, so that we can contribute to our country, benefit from it , and still reside abroad.

Ayomifull i like your signature "The best exercise for the heart is bending down and lifting people up.", quite unfortunate your contributions contradict with it! ~What we do for ourselves will be gone when are gone, but what will do for others will remain as a legacy, even when we are long gone!~ Nigeria will take her rightful place amongst the league of nation very soon! God Bless Nigeria!

LOL @ topic.
THis is a serious command.
As for me and my house,we shall remain right here.!!!!
I have been here for about 7yrs.Even when my hubby was posted to Nigeria for a short trem assigment, i did not go. When he left for Accra,i got there before him. It gave me the oppurtuinity to visit home from a ''close'' distance.
When he was posted back to London,i ran back before he could even get here with my children. When one stays away for a long time, going back is not easy,i must say. We are in a society where everything works-constant electricity, water, good roads, good transport system, etc. and suddenly, you go back to Nigeria where there's hardly any security, nepa fails like no man's business, okada is ready to break your legs if you are not careful. Even the way motorists horn is so scary.
My dear, it'll not be easy to just up and go. I'll eventually go back, but not before my kids are able to stand on their own two feet. I am not coming back with them.

Alot of generations will be lost in the desert(singing the Lords song in a strange land).Tell your sis & Bros that when the nemesis of the "new world order" surface,Nigeria will be happy to create a refugee camp for them in lagos/Ibadan express road. I am sure you heard the news of an American deported to Nigeria. They also sending some to Liberia. Nonsense, even the Normads with all their walkabout history still know their home land.
Just because we decided not to return to Nigeria doesn't mean we are lost
Tell me something, what does a country like Nigeria got to offer us, a job isn’t guarantee only with people with connection, our country isn’t safe, the educational system is bad, nor does the degree worth anything abroad.
Just because we don't live in Nigeria or decided not to return doesn't mean we are lost or have forgotten the culture, like my parents says “Never forget the child of whom you are nor where you come from”
Who cares if Nigeria is creating a refugee camp , abi wetin concern me

I'm living in a country very close to Nigeria, I don't believe life in Nigeria is that bad as you guys thing, I have been in the Netherlands, Germany and Denmark, I still get it hard to settle there, thus I have to come back to Benin Republic instead, does it mean that my dream of living permanently in Benin republic is that this poor country has anything than the Giant of Africa, I think Nigeria and the rest of Africa is getting better, and I see no reason why one should settle in a country where ones right is being denied by the inhabitants and the authorities.
People are making it big here and life in Africa is the sweetest

I love Nigeria my country, the order that exists in the disorder tells me I'm alive and what a privilege it is as well, everyday is different something good something bad but definitely diffrent keeps me in excited expectation. When i drive in Lagos i feel elated in the reckless abandon with which we drive tells me God is by my side cause i survived, my driving skills will now put Lewis Hamilton to test cause i passed the test, i drived & survived in Lagos. The happy go lucky sticky hands of the police asking for a piece of my cake, which I gladly share and smile knowing i can always get somemore you see I'm blessed like that. Even the dust welcomes you by sticking to the sheen on your face from the loving rays of Sun, everybody is your bros they show so much love and wilingness to share. Organic food at premium rate no delay on the way by the road side the flavour is slammin, don't give me ocean view i no be oibo like that. Kai, kai, i love Nigeria my country i no go fit lie, NEPA or power holding i like am so, light or no light, Nigeria still sweet + SWEET .
