creep. and who told you all that teraflop is going to matter a great deal in games? ps3 has one general purpose core and 7 single threaded specialist spes. xbox360 has 3 multi threaded (2 hardware threads per core) general purpose cores so in effect 360 has 6 general purpose cores to ps3's one general purpose core. single threaded single purpose cores are not as flexible or even useful in realworld terms as general purpose units. your spe's can't run Office, if needs be, but the cores in 360 can if office was designed to run on a powerpc architecture. but does all this mean anything? not diddly squat. ps3 and xbox360 are many times more powerful than the wii but guess which sold better?

listen. the Emotion Engine GSX of the ps2 was hyped to render realtime toy story level graphics, it didnt even come close. yet it sold millions of units. current gen consoles are exponentially more powerful than the ps2 and the original xbvox, but all that power doesnt leapfrog graphics or game play exponentially above the previous gen. lots of games on both ps3 and 360, without HD, look only slightly better than previous gen, and they play similarly too. so wheres the toy story graphics with all the teraflops you quote? developers want ganes to closely mirror the level of CG detail in movies and pixar's works but sadly no affordable console in the next five years can achieve that feat. it took 4 years to make toy story, 3 years to make shrek, and those are pre-rendered videos, not realtime graphics which require more powerful hardware for the same graphical detail. it took an average of 3 hours on extremely powerful computers to render ONE SCENE in toy story. its over 100,000 frames over 77 minutes took 36 computer years. and yet they hope to someday achieve that on games.

only the wii offered something new in terms of gameplay. so its not how much power. if it was power the N64 could have been the dog's bollocks ovet the ps1. or the original xbox could have been king of the hill, not ps2. and ps3 could have been top dog not wii (closely followed by the 360).

face it, dude, our graphical expectations have been squashed. they sell us bloated specs that don't mean much and watch us flame each other while they count their milllions. my advice is, since most games are going multiplatform, buy the console you ca afford. the difference between ps3 and 360 is superficial enough to be almost negligible.

oh, and they say 360 gpu has better power because of its memory architecture. and its unified shader architecture.

vowiski, i coudlnt care less what you think of my posts as my target audience transcends mere maggots like you. i daresay you have no clue what a teraflop is, let alone a ton of the specs you THINK matter a great deal. even devs are still arguing about the merits/demerits of each console while they try to understand and harness that power and translate it into gaming.

Yeah. we all agree that the xbox 360 has technical flaws, it's blu-ray-less and won't have MGS 4.  :)But one thing that amazes me is that people keep on trooping out in large numbers to buy the console.
Ohh.  or is it because of its: sleek design and excellent dashboard;Stunning and superior HD graphics in both exclusive and multiplatform games; Xbox live/ marketplace; almost complete backward compatibility.

We all know that the reason gamers buy game consoles is to play game, not to watch movies. Most ps2 consoles in nigeria today don't play DVD movies and the owners are not complaining at all. I doubt even if some of them have ever slotted in a DVD to check wether it's working or not.

Maybe people buy xbox 360 because they want to play FABLE 2, BIOSHOCK, HALO 3, LOST ODYSSEY, MASS EFFECT, DARKNESS, GEARS OF WAR and great multi-platforms like ASSASSIN'S CREED, KANE & LYNCH, COD 4, GTA IV(with online episodic contents for 360 alone), FIFA 08, PES 2008 and not because they want to watch SPIDER-MAN 3 in HI-DEF.

IF YOU WANT TO PLAY GEARS OF WAR 2(Nov., 2008), PLEASE BUY AN XBOX 360 CONSOLE.

by ending of 2008 all XBOX 360 lovers are coming over to the Ps3 side because sony is about to unwrap its box of goodies. Why do you think the Blu ray has more than double the HD DVD? , because you get more than double delight nwhen things unfold.
Believe me, thats what next generation gaming is all about. Just wait and see

i just feel i must put in a word here
this ps3/xbox360 war is going too far.
they are both awesome machines in their own right.
but for now, if you are a serious gamer, the 360 elite is the best choice.
the ps3 is theoretically a far more superior console but does it show? (no!)
i have had a 360 for 2 years now and i am soo happy with it

about the mgs4 graphics, you are absolutely right
even hideo kojima was not impressed at all.
so the big question - what are all the processors and graphic cards doing?
maybe someday the ps3 will achieve its might but till that day, stick to the elite.
