Congrats on your successful interview and visa issuance. Can you kindly provide some useful info with regards to the interview process. If you don't mind possibly to the following:
What time were you asked to get to bhc and what time were you subsequently interviewed. Details of questions you were asked (as much details as possible would be helpful).
I have been invited for an interview next week as well for a student visa application and your response would be really appreciated.
Regards

My interview is billed for tomorrow. However, I was called yesterday and asked for my sponsors contacts but I explained he was out of the country presently - I hope that wouldn't pose any problem. He later arrive yesterday night. A friend of mine is also still in the waiting game - applied since July 16 - and waiting hopefully

@ Paribus You have nothing to fear. In my case, they didn't ask me any questions. The only problem was that they kept me waiting from 8.00am to 3.00pm while other applicants have long gone with their visas(or refusal letters). The ECO finally called me around 3.00pm, after apologising profusely for keeping me waiting he admitted he has no single question to ask me so I should just hang around for a few minutes and pick up my visa. We were about twenty that came for the interview, only three were refused Visas. That goes a long way to prove that if your case is genuine you really have nothing to worry about. Generally they asked the other guys the following questions: Why the Course? Why the University? What is your relationship with your sponsor? What facilities does the school have? Why UK? What is the Course Structure? ETC. They also asked one particular applicant who happened to be an engineer the meaning of one engineering term like that. The guy thrashed it out and of course, he got his visa. Like I said, you really have to ask for God's favour which I believed played a major role in my application. I was nervous and sweating over nothing(can you believe I used the convenience like five times while waiting in their office?) . You too will see that there is nothing much to it soon.

I was at the BDHC today for my interview. And my application was successful. I waited from 7am to 12:30pm before I was called in. I used the restroom FIVE times while waiting (the anxiety and the cold).
Nine of us were interviewed and seven were successful. One had problem with funding and the other had a forged bank statement (and it wasn't discovered until that day). The questions I was asked was just as described as nkenwanyi - including what I intend to do after the course and when do I want to do my NYSC.
I tried as much as possible to do a good job with the questions and the interview lasted about 8mins. I'm to collect my docs and passport on Monday.
Thank you everyone.
D10 it would be ok.

@hob_globin Congratulations, Iam also very proud of you
@everyone else I called 33505 again this morning, guess what? They told me my application is ready. My joy knew no bounds. I drove all the way to PHC were I submmited the application at the VAC, just to be told that they arent on today becasue ofthe crisis in Portharcourt. Can you guys imagine that. Considering that I drove for mre than 2 hours to get there. They guys on 33505 couldnt even tell me that the office in PHC is locked down. Well the guards there say they would be on on monday.
Believe me, this weekend would definitely feel like eternity. Hopefully, I would be the next person posting testimonies here just like everyone else. It's just that I wasnt called for an inerview like u guys. But having wasted so much time (26 working days), I hope they have good news inside that envelope lying in portharcourt and waiting for me to rip it open.
For whatever itsworth, Guys, pleasssssssssssssssssse keep the parayers up for a very fast weekend. There are loads of things I could do to pass time but I actually told God that I'D keep away from most of those things untill my application came through. I am not about breaking that promise now. My best bet is to keep busy on nairaland.com
I'm counting on you guys.

@ hob_goblin, @ D10
Congrats guys. It's good to know that we are all successful and it's all thanks to the numerous advice we received via Nairaland. So when are you guys leaving? I plan to leave mid September because I have a lot of things to tidy up at my workplace. My course is actually starting on 24th of September. I have one question though, how do you guys intend to transfer your money to UK. It's not a good idea to travel with a lot of cash so, what other option do I have?

my program starts sept. 24 also.
Other than cash, you have the option of acquiring traveler's cheques. Its better in small denominations and make sure you have the serial numbers jotted down somewhere (in case they get stolen).

@pablo and Hob_globin my school starts september 17th buth the induction program is on the 11th, 12th and 13th so I am planning to arrive around the 8th of september. I'm still trying to get a good deal on a reasonable flight. Is anyone of you intending to travel around that period/ which flighht are you taking?
With regards to the money transfer thing, my dad has a dormiciliary account with UBA and it was from there that he wired my school fees into the uni's account. So as soon as I am able to open a student account in the Uk, he can wire monbey to me at any time straight from hisaccount into my account inthe uk. no western union shit. I can also transfer money from my account straight into his dormiciliary accont too, no western union shit. all u need is the account number, sort code, swift code etc.

@hob_globin I'll try see the link shortly. I'm actually in a little bit of a dillema booking myflight bc of my mum.
mumsi doesnt want me to fly from abuja because nobody she knows has and i am not going to be an experiment.
mumsi doesnt want me to fly british airways because its a night flight and why travel at night if you can travel during the day
mumsi doesnt want me to fly KLM or any flight that isnt non stop because she doesnht want me stuck up in amsterdam or frankfurt or doha or dubai for longer than necessary without having a transit visa for that country.
mumsi doesnt want me to travel via virgin nigeria because that means i'm entering london via gatwick and she recalls a bad experience she had there once.
so i am left with travelling via virgin atlantic because that s the only flight i can get now flying from lagos, during the day, direct to london heathrow, all because my mum is simply, my mum.

@D10 Try finding out form the school website for the best and easiest way to get to campus- is it better from Heathrow or Gatwick. Though, I'm surprised she doesn't want you to land in gatwick.
Even, if you take a night flight you'll be there by morning and still go through immigration.
After all said, if funding isn't an issue, I believe its better you do want mum says.

Hello Swftycool,D10 and the rest,
Congraulations on your visas.I hope you will be willing to give me a little advice on my own appllication
Am pleased to learn of this forum. It serves as a veritable place for Nigerians(both home and abroad) to express their profoud opinions on a myriad of issues.
Ive been reading your many contributions to this forum and I have in no small way benifitted from other peoples experiences, testimonies and advice.Perhaps it would have been better if I had discovered this forum before I submitted my application to the britsh high commission in lagos ,for a student's visa!
I kindly request the team of experts on visa issues to please advise me ,as i believe my case is a litte peculiar to the ones Ive been reading about so far.
I recently submitted an application to study for an msc(international business) in london.i have studied in the uk as a minor from 1981 till 1987(am 28 now).I was accompanied by late father.I was in the Uk legally and stayed with white guardians througout my time as a student in the uk.However in 1987 my late father requested i return to Nigeria to continue with my studies.Since 1987 ive been actively engaged in my studies.I would like to state however that the name i travelled under is quite different from the name i was to later bear as a student in the uk.The reason i was told was that the whites found it hard to pronouce my original name and for the convenience of everyone i had to adopt my late father's first name as my surname.Unfortuately I also can't find my passsport aand therefore have little evidence of my past travels as all my travel documents were in the possession of my late father. All i have is two certificates awarded to me in london and an old pix of me in my british school uniform.I have submitted these documents as supporting documents with my application form.
Am a graduate(bsc business administration) and i have 1 and a half years working experience.I now run my own business in nigeria.
I inherited shares from my late father and the dividends are paid in USD into my dorm account .
My sponsor(although i really don't need a sponsor)is my mother's step brother. They don't share my mother's maiden name.He has provided me with his shares certificate ,statement of account, receipts ,invoices, affidavit, and letter of support.
I have provided my business registration, statement of account in naira and USD.my business invoice, receipts and statement of purpose and receipts for 50% deposit payment of tuition fees.
I did state in the form that i had visited the uk before ,i also stated that my current passport was not the first issued me.Although i missed to state the name differences in my od passport.
1.i would like to find out if my previous stay in the uk will affect my current application.
2.will the british high commission hold against me the fact that i cannot produce my previous passport .
3.With this new biometric system can they trace my details in my old passport and if so if they find out about the slight differences in my name how will this affect my application.

@naijatown
I want to believe it was an error on your part not to 'atleast' state your previous name and a doc showing that you actually changed your name.
To the best of my knowledge, the advantage of biometrics is more into the future than into the past. Let me explain. If biometric data has been gathered from you, your future applications can be monitored (e.g. if u claim to have changed your name, your identity can be verified), but this cannot work for your applications before the biometrics thingy.
I believe paying tuition in full would have helped your application very much. Its not a silver bullet, but it would have eased the scrutiny on your financial status.I personally believe, that if you'll have any problem it would be about verifying that you'll be returning to nigeria and that you actually want to study in the UK.
As regards ur uncle, he should have provided a letter stating in clear terms the nature of the relationship and the reason why he chooses to sponsor your studies.
Its a good thing you atleast submitted some pictures to back your claim.
All the best!

Thank you for your opinion. My sponsor did provide a letter"stating in clear terms" his relationship to me.He also provided a sworn affidavit.I paid 50% of the tuition fees because that's what the school advised me to do. Regarding the verification process of my returning to Nigeria. You raised two salient issues.Ive provided my business registration documents,2 of my bank accoount statements(one in nigerian currency the other in USD)invoices and receipts for my business. I also included in a personal statment stating that while am away studying am delegating full managerial responiblities to my younger brother.Does this not serve as enough eveidence to show am active in nigeria ,and have enough interests in nigeria to return home at the end of my Masters programme?

I just wanted to gauge your application. A friend of mine (senior colleague) was recently denied on the basis of 'uncertainty of his returning and his intention to study' despite the fact that he was well established in Nigeria.
However, your case looks clearer than his, and I believe you shouldn't have any problem.
Finally, the school might suggest 50%, but there is nothing like paying higher (if u can afford it immediately), considering the fact of discounts and a stronger application.

Thank you for taking time out to shed some light on my application.I guess am just a bit nervous after reading most of the threads here! It's been 17 days(13 working days)since ive submitted my application and neither my sponsor nor I have recceived any phone calls from the BHC.was just wondering if thats a good or bad thing and how long it takes for them to handle an application ?
